Well..strange.

It was the battery (even though it was only 16 months), so I replaced it with a new one. Now it cranks like a champ, but won't turn over. I'll plan on getting a code reader, but any suggestions on a possible quick solution based on your experience would be great ? Fuel filter ? MAF ? fuse ?does the DME need to be "retrained" on a '99 ?

Alternator is fine. I noticed some water, however, in the area directly to the left of the battery when I replaced it. I recently washed the car, and I think it pooled up there. It's been drained.

She cranks nicely, but will not turn over. All other electrical works (guages / windows / lights / radio etc) Not sure if the pooled water has created an electrical fault somewhere (maybe a sensor / valve / pump) I have a Durametric on order that should arrive next week. Ill pull the codes before I continue along the next path. I appreciate the help everyone.

And yes, I have gas

There should be enough room to try this or pull one plug and see if it's wet.

My experience is if you do something and then the car won't start, look at where you last touched. It usually is in there somewhere.

Yes, i did not "do" much this time around.

1 - car runs fine
2 - wash car (suspected root cause)
3 - symptom -- battery drains while driving, assumed alternator.
4 - battery drains during cranking
5 - battery dies
6 - boost car (suspected root cause)
7 - check battery and alternator - battery dead, alt ok.
8 - replace battery, notice water in area beside battery(suspected root cause)
9 - symptom --now she cranks, but wont turn over.

10 - buy code reader.....

No, a spark plug. Check for spark.

Just to close the loop on this thread...code reader was indicating MAF sensor. I cleaned the MAF and the air filter.

Car would now fire up (only with a boost), but not hold an idle. It would stall once i took my foot off the pedal. Also, the battery was not holding a charge... I thought about the alternator again and maybe messed up plugs with all my rough starts. I bit the bullet and took it to a local Indy as I could not find the time to keep digging. At any rate....it ended up being the alternator after all. New Bosch alt, cleaned the plugs and coil packs and she runs better now than even before this all began. I also had him install the IDP plenum while he was in there.

Now back to the rest of the DIY list... window regulator and spoiler bellow.

Congrats on getting her running ...
i find it very odd that an alternator would allow it to turn over but not fir .. any hoo.... glad you are up and running ..

I just reread your post as it was confusing me ..

turn oveer and crank mean the same thing so perhpas we had some definition issue .. the issue is wether it would fire no ?
