My 928 is a daily. Puts a smile to my face daily. Rain, snow, or sunshine

I was going to put up a thread if anyone is going to put their road insurance back on for this weekend, looks like Saturday is sunny and +6C.

Sooo tempted but the roads will likely full of salty puddles considering the amount of snow still on the ground (at least out this way).

Been driving it all winter except for a brief 4 week period when I thought it was a good idea to store it. It's AWD and it is just a car, so why garage it for 50% of the year?

aiming for Apr.1 for the 930 (hopefully earlier, damn snow/salt) and waiting on engine parts for the 951 -its been used caringly throughout winter until the headgasket went...

Which trickle charger do you use to keep battery alive during storage? Will a cigarette lighter outlet from the car sufficient enough to keep the battery charged during the entire winter or do you keep the charger plugged directly onto the battery?

At least spend $80 and have it oil sprayed once a year if you're going to drive it in the winter. Once rust starts showing up your 911 isn't going to be worth much. I got a friend with an 89 Volvo 740 GLE that has been oil sprayed and winter driven all its life, no rust on it. I have seen a rusted out 996 turbo here in Ottawa, 10 year old car.

I got a Porsche branded charger got from the dealer, made in Germany, cigarette lighter kind. ~$85. Works fine. Friend's C2S battery discharged this winter, we charged it with this charger. Mine's been plugged in all the time.

I'll be sitting on my hands until the end of March probably to avoid the salt and slip. This is my first year with the car but I only plan on garaging it from ~1 December to 31 March - conditions depending - four months out of twelve.

Oh, and I use the Canadian Tire 2A charger. Seems to work fine - it has some logic that turns it off when the battery is fully charged.

I'm not convinced the car is going to rust out during the next 5 or so years that I own it.

I never undercoat any of my cars-nasty muck to deal with when working on anything underneath. Frequent underside washes are key, I've never had a car(Porsche, Volvo, BMW) get 'rusty' on me...that said, especially if you do not do frequent washes, quality(ie. Krown) yearly undercoating will help prevent rust/corrosion

I've been advised that it is unnecessary to undercoat modern Porsches. Curious as to other views on this.

Porsche has been using galvanized steel for the body I believe since the 70's so there are some preventative measures already but doing more can't hurt.
I myself would not do oil. Too messy.
I like that waxy stuff from symtech I think its called.

all 911's since 1976.5 have had full top to bottom galvanizing which makes the car much more resistant to rust/corrosion. All 911's excluding GT2's and GT3's have a factory 'undercoating' layer on them from Porsche...I have seen rusty air-cooled's including 993's but have not seen any water-cooled 911's with any substantial rust issues...my 951 for example has a full factory 'rubber' undercoat layer similar to a911, I only spot-spray high contact metal areas such as fender lips and rockers with Amsoil Chainwax, not a single spot of corrosion or rust on it...
It's all about the owner, have seen beautiful 80's 911's that go through winter every year, and have seen same years rusty-neglected summer-only cars, simple body wash/maintenance is 99% what matters...
