I've got a printout from the dealer when I picked up the 996 in Illinois. It was printed off the Porsche site. Shows the two recalls as being completed. Is that sufficient for RIV or do they look for something more specific? I'll post a pic of the letter soon.

It all depends on the RIV inspector. Technically, your printout is not sufficient - it's supposed to be on corporate letterhead, or have a business card (including Porsche crest) photocopied onto it. However, a lenient inspector will let that go. My local guy most likely would.

My method is to call US dealers, one by one, and ask them if they'll send me a letter. If necessary, I'll offer to pay an hour of shop time for the service. So far nobody's charged me for it.

Ok I'll contact the dealer I got the car from and see if they can get me a proper letter.

Just have them put a dealer stamp on the print out and re send it to you.

Got a reply back from the dealer, they are emailing a proper recall letter tomorrow. They are a Porsche dealership so it should be easy for them to put it on a proper letterhead.

I sent my letter into RIV and was able to talk to them to find out where it was deficient. I then got a compliant letter.

You can do this too - but be aware that it starts the clock and the car must be imported within a certain number of days or the letter is void.

My letter was accepted before I bought the car.

I just had this issue a few months ago. I had a US Porsche dealer print a letter on their letterhead stating that the vehicle has no outstanding recalls. RIV said its not sufficient, as something like that can be printed by anyone on any computer. I incidently had a service record with me that looked like a dealership print screen and it had no mention about any recalls whatsoever, yet this is the paper RIV accepted. Acording to RIV, outstanding recalls show up on service print screens. I think its bull...
I agree with Christien, it depends on who you talking to. So try your luck with what you got. Worse that can happen is that they will tell you what they will be happy with and then you can work on that.

That letter will be fine.

I'm surprised your first letter wasn't accepted (or did you even try?).

I've never experienced any variation in what's accepted and what's not... the two you've shown here have always worked for me . For every car I've imported, I simply email a pdf of the letter to the RIV recall email address and cite the VIN and Case Number. You should be fine...

I have the service history printout too. Will email it to them tonight. The car is already here, the engine is out and being repaired. Check the I dragged home one of these thread.

You can either fax the letter to RIV at 1-888-642-9899 or email a scan / pdf to them at recall@support.riv.ca

The recall letter has to be sent to RIV and they will issue you Form 2. This form is required at the time of the federal inspection. The car will be imported and cross the border without an accepted recall letter and subsequent Form 2.

Thanks.....I saw your post but only after I posted mine. So then I edited it. Just finished emailing the the letter.

My last recall letter Nov 2011 was a print screen document from a dealer which I emailed to RIV and was acceptable. I thought it looked hokey compared to my previous car imported in 2006.

When I brought an Audi in to Canada in 2008 the recall clearance letter had to be from Audi corporate. It was on letterhead and emailed to me about two hrs after sending then the info showing I had bought the car.

I sent that to riv and they were fine with it. That was may 2008.
