I thought that too so figured give it a try I was and still is hard to get information on the bearing because the few that know something about them are not willing to share it. I don't necessarily blame then since they are running a business but that's not what gearheads do. My bearing cost $100 USD, plus $20 for shipping and I re used the factory bearing supporting structure. But since the LN bearing kit comes with custom made flange and custom made center support, that will factory into the cost too and then add the Porsche tax and the brokerage fee (because they don't ship USPS), PLUS the exchange rate and you end up with a ~$1400 CDN bearing kit. It was not a easy decision for me to fork out this much especially when the brokerage fee of $200 was not expected at all. That last $200 felt like a stab in the back.

Since you have a dual row why not just put a new OEM one back in or have you found one that is less expensive then LN?

Porsche doesn't sell the bearing, only available with the shaft and that's around $1500 USD. I'm not even sure if they sell the dual row ones anymore. I should have left the original dual row bearing in there when I first fixed the engine. But all the hype scared me and I decided to change it. In all fairness my oil got really hot at the drag strip and wiped out some of the main bearings.Did this cause the intermediate shaft bearing to fail too? I don't know but it sure didn't help it.

I am really anxious for Spring to get here so I can finally do something on the Boxster and be forced to make a decision! As I mentioned earlier I want to have a look at and perhaps change the clutch, so while in there I will check the IMSB. Since I have not yet actually seen the bearing in situ I am a bit sketchy on what I can verify without removing the bearing. If I understand correctly with the bearing cover removed the inner race of the bearing is free to turn so it is possible to feel if the bearing is loose or not turning smoothly. If the bearing is still tight and smooth I would be temped to remove the bearing seal to allow any old acidic oil out and allow the bearing to be lubricated by the engine oil, then put the cover back and leave it at that. With the seal off a closer examination for scoring of the ***** is also possible.

Jus to wrap thing up, after 6 years I have finally finished this project. The car is back on the road and have 600km on it. Another 400km more and then I'm switching over to synthetic oil. The transmission pinon bearing is replaced too (got a VW one form the local dealer for a fraction of the cost). Now I can start working on the little things like the window regulator and shocks/struts but for now I'll just enjoy driving it until the show flies.
