Do you have a borescope. I'd pull the plugs and look at the cylinders. Also note how each plug looks compared to each other.

Clive, sorry, didn't see this till now. I was over at my brother's refilling the AC on the tow vehicle.

The AC clutch bearing went just outside of Chichago when we already ahd the 996 in the back and had to replace the entire unit in an Autozone parking lot. We were lucky they had one in stock. Then we there was a blowout on the trailer just before Cleavland.....it was an eventfull road trip, but we made it.

Pics from the other night. The black oval is a magnet. Very few small specs of metal. The middle of the oil pan are the plastic bits. Filter cut open looked clear of any metal.

Plastic bits may = water pump failure? Any plastic in coolant? Not sure how they'd get into oil....ah what the crap do I know?

Did some duagnosys and the engine is coming out. Bank 1 (driver side) has 0psi and Bank 2 cyl#4 has 90psi and cyl#5 has 30 psi.
Didn't bother cheching the rear most cylinders to compression. All the plugs look ok, the electrodes aren't smashed and there is no sigh of excessive oil burnig either. Something happened to the cam timing and there must be some bent valves. Coolant looked good and clear.

What is the serial number on the motor..interested to know if this is the original motor or already a remanufactured one ? This is a great thread, thanks for starting it Imre. The journey seems to have started before you even got it home

I saw one non factory zip tie holding the main wiring harness down so the engine might have been out before. Where is the block number on these engines?

I'm thinking timing skipped a tooth because of tensioner or ims sbaft is ratling around coz the bearing is toast.
I'd have those pieces of plastic looked at. Colin if you still have hour bearing or Phil that may help. Imre can. Compare plastic and see if it is the same

When I was under it yesterday, saw some signs of oil leaking at the back of the engine. Either the IMS or the RMS is slightly leaking. Not enough to drip but enough to collect dust. I'll be going out today too start removing things from the bottom. Everything from the top is dissconnected. Working on the trailer is so much nicer on the back. Almost as good as a small hoist. Clive, I kept some of the plastic bits form the oil pan. If someone has something to compare it to, that would be great.
