I had ignition cutting out on me when I was on the highway ever since I had bought the car... All of my troubleshooting pointed to the CDI. I haven't had an issue since I switched to the MSD. Plus I have a programmable rev limiter which saved my ass the other day when my throttle stuck open! I had set it to 5000 to test it before I went for that drive. It wasn't programmed before that. What are the odds of that....

Regards,

Jonathon

Clive, you should consider the MSD upgrade. It's pretty cheap (I think $300 for CD and coil), much more reliable (modern engineering), and provides slightly better fuel mileage and power (more combustion in the chamber due to multiple sparks) and I suppose slightly better emissions. When I thought I was having ignition problems, I replaced all the original stuff with MSD, and I'll likely never have to think about it again.

Sorry Christien for me this is all just hype , and i value keeping the car is original as possible.
the reason i was asking was i would be interested in getting Jonathon's old CDI box and rebuilding it is an emergency spare.

Jonathon you got lucky that day .. could have been painfull AND expensive

Over the years, before even having a Porsche, I was and still have a couple of MSD boxes but I don't use them anymore. They are good but they are not realible. Do a google search and you'll see. Most race cars that have them, have a second one installed as a back up with a bypass switch . That should tell you something about the duarbility and QC. They are good stuff but they are unpredictable when it comes to durability.

Well, if I had five times the money to blow I guess I would have done it right the first time:

Along with that comes a lot of other things that you have to open your wallet for...
But that will have to wait a few years... :)
