I have always wanted one since I could drive and when I turn 40 and had some money, I bought one.
Not because it is chicks magnet, or...see I have money etc.

Hope you did for the same reason and thanks for asking.
I believe that you are incorrect Jake. The Subaru Sti has a great racing background and is statistically more capable then your 2002 996 C2. Not to mention...way easier to drive all out! Sometimes we Porsche owners get too tied up in our own cars and don't see the new Tech. offerings from other Car Makers.

"With the larger engine and manual, our test car hit 60 in 5.0-seconds flat. That's 2-tenths- of-a-second faster than last year's 911. The 1/4 mile ended in 13.5 seconds, at 107 miles-per- hour. The increased power and updated engine controls are especially noticeable when exiting fast corners. The power builds quicker with a more linear feel. There are no steps in the powerband, just a steady flow all the way to the redline. Engine characteristics that this year's even lighter, more precise, manual shifter allows you to fully exploit."

MotorWeek

MotorTrend pegs a 2007 WRX STi at 0-60 4.7 1/4 mile 13.2

I love my Porsche for what it is. There are many way faster modern cars out there but they don't sound, feel, smell or drive the same.

The sound of an air-cooled engine is all the power I need.

Sorry what ever your name is...I thought your question was why did I buy a Porsche. I could care less how much better an STI performance, I've test driven many cars and currently have 2 other turbo cars in my garage. Unless you have driven one yourself, make no mistake turbo cars are quite different in performance delivery. For one, the STI is 4WD and lauched much better than RWD hence the better time off the line. At the top end, the P car will out perform an STI any day(achillies heel 4WD). Please do not be fooled with test results that you read in magazines, they all have differnent opinions and results. Eg. 996 3.6L 0-160km 11.9sec STI 0-160km 13.3 according to R&T magazine. We can argue all day about performace but the driving involvement and experience with the P car by far out weights many and certainly the STI.

Your first paragraph kind of contradict the second. "Sometimes we Porsche owners get too tied up in our own cars and don't see the new Tech. offerings from other Car Makers."
"There are many way faster modern cars out there but they don't sound, feel, smell or drive the same."
Perhpas that is why we are passionate about our P car. Peace out.

Jake I've actually owned most of the enthusiast cars available. Nothing too exotic though.

I've owned a 350hp WRX and I can tell you now that 98% of good drivers could turn way better lap times at Mosport in that then a 2002 996 C2.

My last Porsche was a tricked out 996TT so I do know what turbo and AWD is all about.

I'm not saying your car is slow but just saying there are some real amazing cars out there that are way faster. To truly sample the flaw in the 911 try turning off your PSM on Mosport and let's see how fast you kiss the wall in turn 5b or turn 10.

ie. Nissan 370z, WRX Sti, mitsu EVO, Skyline GTR

I have been a used car dealer and garage owner for 15 years. I dealt with Wheeltek twice, once a few years ago and once recently. Both times did not like the service, poor quality, and them lying about terms and prices. When trying to speak with them they are very rude, no customer service at all. Do not provide any receipts or registration documents. Wheels that I handed over straight ended up being bent, the ones they painted peeled, and they refused to redo it or refund my money. I do not recommend them to anyone.
