Default Advice needed on snow tires

I recently aquired an 02 911 and it is my only car so I will drive it in the winter. What is the best place(s) to look for used 17" rims and snow tires? I would rather buy a lightly used set as it is way more cost effective. If I can't find used in time, what is the cheapest place to get a new set?

Also, from any winter driving experience here in Toronto, what are your recommendations for snow tires?

Thanks

Check out the PCA-UCR classifieds - there's a set of rims from a 996 turbo for sale on there now...

I'm sure others will chime in with other local options for you.

Cheers

try kijiji

Turbo wheels probably won't fit on a nb 996

Blizzaks or Pirrelli Snow Sports seem to be the choice of the majority of us winter drivers.

Go with as narrow of a tire as you can.
Too many people put wide tires on and wonder why they spin on top of the snow.

never driven my boxster in the winter.... don't plan to,..... but...

16+ yrs of commuting in the snowbelt, I would say, that any snow tire will give decent performance for any condition u will see in the GTA.

I've had about 8 sets of snow tires for our 2 vehicles since 1995, tried Toyo, Michelin, Blizzak, Cooper, used, new, and been happy with the performance of all. Been happiest on the price of good used tires found through family, or on kijiji.

I have them on my DD from November (1st snow) doesn't last past the morning commute, to March.

+1 for kijiji for used rims.
For tires, I have been running a set Bridgestone Blizzak LM 25 for several winters (first on a '95 993 and now on the Boxster) and I am very happy.
But click on the link below if you prefer Porsche approved winter tires (brand and sizes):

PS: you will have a blast driving your 996 in the snow this winter

I use Nokian Hakkapeliitta R snow tires on my Subaru Impreza,
they are absolutely amazing, those plus AWD and a stick shift
make for an entertaining winter drive.

It's funny cause I was thinking of putting 18x8's in the back of mine (with a spacer). Porsche wants me to keep 18x10? Even at 265...that's still pretty damn wide for winter isn't it?

Anybody running this or thinner?

Nope. I run 295 Pirelli Snowsport 240. Have done so for 3 winters and the thing goes through snow better than an SUV. Mind you I don't live in Fort Mac!
