Default Latest addition to the garage

The floor!

VCT from Home Depot. Took a few nights after work to install. Much better than my stained, dusty concrete floor. Dead simple to install. The tiles are pretty tough - should be interesting to see how they hold up.

Total cost was under $400 for a 20' x20' area.

Looks good! How long did it take you to install it and was there any prep required?

Looks very nice...did you have to paint the floor first to make it really sticky?

Swept the floor, and had to chisel some high spots near the walls. That's it.

I applied the glue directly to the concrete. You let it set for about an hour (it changes colour) and then you have about 6 hours to apply the tiles. VERY sticky. At one point I stepped on a patch of adhesive, and I thought I might have to take my shoe off to remove it from the floor!

All told I probably spent 10 hours or so - but it was over several days.

Do you know if this tiling would work on paved surfaces ? My garage floor is paved, and I've been looking for a flooring option that might work ? Thinking about paint used by Works department for road paint, but would consider this as a better long term solution. Thanks

Do they "click" together too? How did you get it to align it so well? Looks great!

Looks awesome! What about cutting the tiles - just an exacto knife or something?

We're looking to do something in the near future, but I don't want to paint because we've got too many cracks (chasms, really!) in the floor. So far I've seen Phil's, Jim's and now your solution, and they're all pretty much in the same price range.

That looks really good and might be better then the epoxy stuff you see on the shelf at Home Depot.

Can you take a look on the can if you still have it to see what temp you can apply the glue at? With daytime temp's going lower and lower now I might have to wait until late next spring to apply the glue if you need a min 60-70F to start.

Is it going to be slippery when wet?

I aligned everything by starting with a chalk line that I snapped down the center of the floor. They don't "click" together - just butt up against each other. To shape them you score with a utility knife and then snap apart.

Not sure how they'll be when wet, but I don't plan on getting much water on them if I can help it.

The glue is supposed to be applied to a floor that is 65F (18C) or above. I'm sure my floor was cooler than that.......no adhesion problems at all. Long term, I guess we'll see.

Since you own a 911, I guess you will find out if they are oil resistant! j/k

I have always wanted to put something in my garage, but my one car goes in and out all winter long on the other side. I don't think this style of floor will be resistant to snow and slush.

Very nice... I may go in that direction.

What are the tiles made from (vinyl?) and how hard are they?

Can you do other colours that just black and white (i.e. grey)?
