Burning Brakes
Almost bought a Targa from Segal but backed out. Jeff is not a guy you can negoiate with...that having said, he does have quality cars but not always priced well.
For a $1000 on a $72,000 car he lost my business and had the Targa sitting in the show room for almost 4 months.
Thats Segal in a nutshell.

I definitely would have the leakdown and compression test amoungst other things. He is always (from what I have seen) priced above the market. 52k is above the market for a 96...or did you mean a 996? All the cars that I have seen that came from him have been in excellent condition. He also brings some cars from US.

I don't think $52k is too unreasonable as I have seen many above this price at a variety of locations. At 73000km that is pretty low mileage. I am looking at a 1996 (ie 993) in Boston and although it only has 40km he still wants US$50k. After shipping, duties and exchange, well.......
I will go take a look. Suggestions on places to get a PPI if it looks good. Somewhere near Concord?
Thanks

Last year I was very close to picking up a 98 C2S from Segal. At the time he was asking 70K. I mulled it over and decided to buy it IF he was willing to negotiate. He wasn't and the deal was lost. Until recently, he had the car in stock. They have a rep of having some of the best cars in Ontario but hard nosed on fixed prices.
I saw the car you are considering. I think that's a good price for what you want. Definitely have a PPI performed regardless of where you purchase the car. If you want to stick around the Concord area, take the car to Engineered Automotive. I had my BMW Dinan tuned there. Ask for Billy or Lou. GL.

Me think $52k is about market price for Canada, but outrageously expensive for a 993 convertible, considering what you can buy in the US for that money. In the US, a nice/low mileage 993 convertible (6 sp) will sell between US$ 35k and 40k (knock-off another US$ 3k if you want Tiptronic). As an example, check this one (33k miles):

There are many more in the Autotrader (USA) if you are prepared to go south of the border.
Good luck with your search.

Dont really disagree but this car is US$41k. Add duty and exchange and $2k for shipping and your at C$48k. So i am down roughly C$4k but sometimes the hassle is just not worth it. I have seen some cars in this range but also alot in the US in the mid to high 40's for good ones such as the one i am looking at in Boston (23k miles for US$50k).
Anyway i am going to check it out.
Thanks for the thoughts

Given a choice, I wouldn't buy from Segal because they will always be more expensive. However, if he has the car you want then there's really not much you can do except suck it up and pay a premium unless you're willing to wait or goto the States.
I hate them b/c they always seem to have something I want but out of my price range. I hear his stock is all paid for so he isn't pressured into moving inventory quickly for the purpose of not paying interest on loans.

Driving season is almost over. If you wait you can buy a car that someone will sell before parking for another winter.
If you do wait, the car will be one model year older, cheaper.
If you are in no hurry, you can do an open search in the U.S. using cars or autotrader and get the car you want because more cars are sold in the U.S. You will have a bigger pool for options, etc.
I will have my 2002 996tt, 5200 miles, full leather, cd changer, parktronic to be delivered at my door (Toronto) for $74054! That price includes shipping, PPI, daytime running lights installed in the U.S. It should be here by Friday or Tuesday. It was a 3 month search for this car.
Take your time, do your homework and save yourself some money to buy your wife a present so she'll get over your porsche purchase!
