A look back at 10 years of Route 66
People seemed to enjoy the latest trip report, but there have been many trips, and many side trips off the highway to find obscure places where Route 66 once ran, and where artifacts remain. It is a place of gimmicks, eccentrics, sadness and optimism all in one. This is not a guide here but just a few observations of a road shared for many miles with my co-driver Phil and the dogs over the years.
66 started in downtown Chicago on a busy street, but I always thought of is as the open road with the big trucks for company

66 ran
close to the rail routes in many areas, so the train is never far away. A few of the old Harvey hotels which were railside still exist but are mainly used as railroad offices apart from La Posada on my other thread....

Kingman Az

Many have gone for course...the remains of John's Modern Cabins need a bit of navigation to reach in Mo. This was a juke joint during segregation where the black people gathered to party. Long abandoned now and slowly crumbling away...........
