Rennlist - Rescheduled! Lockdown Therapy Cruise Saturday May 23

2 Attachment(s)
Weather looks bad for Sunday, the cruise is now on Saturday (tomorrow)

With the weather looking a little cool and other concerns I have moved the Spring cruise to Saturday, May 23rd. Lord knows we all could likely use a little therapy cruise at this point and some interaction even if it's from a distance in our cars. There is lots of construction down in Nagara including the tunnel, so this cruise has been moved to north/west GTA.

The cruise will not have any stops, at this point, there are no open public restrooms. Near the end of the cruise, there is a truck inspection station with a Porta Potty for the brave or desperate. I was out yesterday for 4 hours with my two kids and we survived without any washroom breaks. The cruise will take about 1 hour and 15 minutes, beginning near the 401 in Milton and terminating near HWY 10 in Caledon. If you have an FRS radio bring it, I will call out directions and any hazards during the cruise. There will be a zoom call at the staging area, this will enable some chit chat and briefing for the cruise while keeping up with the social distancing.

The cruise departs at 9:30 AM, the address will be sent out by PM on Friday. When you receive this PM please respond with a text message to confirm attendance. Google maps link, zoom link and FRS channel will be sent to all confirmed attendees.

The 5 commandments (assuming the social distancing rules as of today will be unchanged on the 23rd)
1: Bring water, food, face mask, etc, with you in your car to limit stopping anywhere
2: Have a full tank of gas
3: Pull into the staging area and park with one full space between each car
4: If you need to get out and stretch your legs consider the area around your car as your bubble and try to stay within it, or keep at least 2m away from any person not riding with you
5: Don't be that guy, all eyes will be on us

:)

And we just might get the start of opening after the 18th. Well timed...

I'm without a P-car at the moment (had recently traded in my 987) though still fond of them. Would a non-Porsche still manufactured in Stuttgart be welcome?

ekam 05-10-2020 02:53 PM

I was on the road yesterday and there were cop cars everywhere. Don't say I didn't warn you guys ....

I think we can make an exception for a fellow German. :)

i agree with this ..

I have been giving " the speech" for a lot of those cruises for years before we start as a reminder . We have had the odd exception tool who will remain nameless , but for the most part people our cruises have been very well behaved and our contributions to the local food bank have been very well recognized in local papers.

bcrdukes 05-11-2020 10:59 AM

Possibly in, but only for the initial 9am Milton meet up. I won't be able to go on the cruise with you folks.

I have a route in mind that will start north of the 401 in Milton. Same start time at 9 am-ish.

Save the date, more details to come. :)

FYI, interesting article.

Any more details on the route? I'm about 2 1/2 hrs out from Milton and still deciding.

Thanks for the article. Sounds like authorities were struggling to lay some charges.

Yes, the route is going start on the outskirts of Milton and it will end in Erin, approximately 86 km. First post updated.

Quick question from my wife...will there be a facilities break?.

We do pass by an Esso station near the midway point of the cruise. For obvious reasons we really can't roll into a gas station as it would expose the group to possibly breaking social distancing rules. We will have to see where things are closer to the day. Now if the situation is the same as today we could possibly stop on a side road near the Esso, and then let one car at a time go to the gas station, then once re-collected we could continue on the cruise. Personally I do not want to use any public washroom, I'm also not sure if they are even open to the public. I plan on pre-driving this weekend, so stay tuned.

bcrdukes 05-12-2020 10:07 PM

In my recent experience, most gas station washroom facilities have been closed. Supermarkets washroom facilities are hit and miss. Some are open, and some aren't. Bit of a luck of the draw, but I hope for the sake of the cruise, there will be a washroom available.

Yes, that's what I thought too. For now, I think it is either nature's washroom or the "way of the road". I plan on not drinking much if anything that morning.

I have shortened the cruise a little, It's just over 1 hour. But there are no washroom facilities or washroom breaks, only some trees and bushes. My wife and daughter were going to tag along in the R, but they are now staying home due to the lack of restrooms.

At this point it's safest to assume that gas station washrooms will still be closed, so plan accordingly.

Rennlisters hoarding adult diapers? :p

Thats exactly what i thought, Most of the girls would back out when they heard no washroom break , but an hour is good, probably most people can hold it that long.

Adamant1971 05-16-2020 04:01 PM

Pre-drive went well today, only one minor tweak to the route because of a dirt road.

On the evening of the 23rd, I will PM the starting location to everyone that has shown interest in attending, along with my cell number. When you receive this PM you must send me a text if you are planning on attending, the google maps route will be sent by text Sunday morning.

Today we saw tons of cars out, many large groups of motorcycles, and many motorcyclists stopped in groups and not practicing social distancing at all. So as long as we make sure we practice social distancing I think we should be good.

Drove via side roads through to NOTL, then stopped to check on Dad in Fonthill before heading back across escarpment on Saturday. Corvette group, Mopar group, Jeep group, bike groups, and smaller group of classic American cars + a smattering of BMW’s were all encountered along our travels

Yep, lots of groups out on the weekend. If this cruise is successful we could look at doing a Rennlist Niagara run in a few weeks. Roads are better twistier in Niagara.

Would love to join as well! Thank you for setting this up.

Turbodan 05-20-2020 12:53 PM

so are we about 20 cars so far?
should we bring frs radios or is there another way to communicate...whats app if we have navigator?
or not necessary?

Adamant1971 05-20-2020 02:44 PM

Yes, at least 20 cars at this point. With this nice weather, I'm guessing that we might hit 30, there are a few drivers that are not in this thread.

Yes, please bring your FRS as I will call out turns or any hazards along the route.

There will be a zoom call at the starting area so we can chat and do the cruise briefing, we can also use whats app or glympse during the cruise. The route will be sent via a google maps link.

All details will be in the PM.

Adamant1971 05-22-2020 12:05 PM

The weather has taken a turn for the worse on Sunday so I'm going to move this cruise up to Saturday (tomorrow). Sorry for the last-minute change but the rain just sucks.

Adamant1971 05-22-2020 05:34 PM

Sorry that the switch caused a few people to drop out. But with a 65% chance of rain on Sunday and a stellar day on deck tomorrow the choice had to be made.

Looking forward to an awesome cruise.

[QUOTE=wc11;16650550]Beautiful day for a Covid Cruise and get together from a distance of course.
Nice to see everyone and hope to do it again sooner than later.
Also nice to see so many sharks. Many thanks Adam for putting this together.

Thanks for organizing Adam.
A wonderful opportunity to see some friends and get to meet a few new ones. The cruise was amazing and one could not have imagined better weather.
looking forward to the next one...

Looks like a good, well-behaved cruise, and everyone practicing social distancing. Sorry I had to bow out, and thanks to Adam again for organizing!
