Paint work @ 427 and Mr Kool
Over the past year, I had two unfortunate incidents happen to my car. Firstly, going through a car wash, the machine grabbed, bent, and torqued my rear windshield wiper in a way that made it slam down on the paint, causing a slight dent and bigger scratch. Secondly, in the GO train parking lot (I park the p-car there occasionally), someone backed into my front bumper hard enough to crack the paint, but not hard enough to crack the bumper.
Anyways, it's almost summer, so I thought it's time to get this thing fixed. I decided on a two-stage approach. Firstly, I was going to get the two panels painted, and 427 auto collision was the obvious choice, as I've only heard good things. Secondly, I went to Mr. Kool detailing in Oakville for a 2 stage paint correction and ceramic coating (Feynlab).
Firstly, I'm going to go against the grain, and say that I did not have a great experience at 427 Auto Collision. Maybe I just went at the wrong time. The car was ready a few days after the original scheduled time, which I didn't really care about, because I wasn't going to be driving the car anyways. What I did care about was when I arrived, there was quite a noticeable mark which was not fixed. In 427's defense, they immediately volunteered to fix it within 48 hours. I came back 48 hours later, and the car looked really good, although quite dusty, so I couldn't get a great look.
Secondly, after waiting two weeks for the paint to settle (something about pores closing up), I took it to Mr. Kool Detailing in Oakville. Customer service was great. He answered all of my many many questions, stayed open past his normal close date to give my car back. And even showed up on Sunday, so I could drop my car off when was convenient for me. When I went to pick up the car, he walked me around it, commented on where it cleaned up nicely, and where there were places that it didn't (any bigger or deeper marks). Unfortunately, he also pointed out two places where there was over-spray. This was super-annoying, as I paid the premium to 427 (compared to other shops), because I heard they gave flawless work. However, that doesn't seem to be the case.
Coles notes: 427 is not as good as their reputation (imo), and Mr Kool detailing has really good service (although a questionnable name).
Also, here is a picture of the car

Thanks for sharing your experience. I've thought about bringing my car to 427 for some minor work but had a hunch they were just too busy to care about a lowly Boxster.
Appreciate the tip on Mr. Kool. I wasn't sure if that was an ice cream shop until I read the post.

first off, don't take that car through the car wash unless you think it is an appliance. Car washes uses detergents that damage the paint (and removes any wax) and the machine and rails will wreck your car.
second off don't leave that car at go station or you will get lots of dings/dents. Buy a commuter car for that.
Good luck otherwise as the car looks awesome! I love the midnight blue with sport seats!

Thanks
I'm learning about car washes, etc. so, it doesn't go through touch car washes anymore (and will mostly be washed at home). I also have a commuter car and a reserved spot (concrete wall on one side, guy who arrives before me on the other) so no more risk there.

Petro Canada has the season's pass carwash, and I call it my happy place.... I only take our daily drivers through. though.... currently a 15 White Golf TDI and a 15 White Q7 TDI...
I don't look at or notice swirls on those vehicles...
Have to be careful with the q7 rims and the rails though, but our wheels had minor previous road rash so I'm not fussing over it.
I would not take my boxster through a automatic carwash though...
