I wouldn’t worry about draining the system. Whatever needs to, will come out and then the leak will stop. Sudden massive leaks are usually caused by a burst hose. Whatever you do, first check where the leak is so you’ll know what to do when time comes to repair it.

After cutting the belt the steering feels a little heavier but I can still manage. I will get this looked at in a few months when I am ready to get a few more things done.

Take it from someone who has a shop... This car you need to do lots of work on it yourself. Whenever we get a 928/944 in the poor owners are always shocked to see the estimate. Are there any DIY garages in your area where you can rent space for 10-15$ an hour? There are tons of resources out there for DIY repairs on 944s. Do the little things yourself then bigger stuff at a shop.

Massive repairs bills are normal on classic cars with questionable history.. it's not like parts have become any cheaper either.

The time is now to drive down to the Hershey Swap Meet with some of the guys and pick up the parts you need for the 944.

If this car is your daily driver then maybe want to pick up a cheap Civic to use that as a DD and keep the 944 for the weekends.
