Default Speed limiting technology mandatory

Speed limiting technology set to become mandatory for all vehicles sold in Europe from 2022, after new rules were provisionally agreed by the EU. How long before it is n North American cars?

All the fun ends in 3...2...1...*

Good it would be great if they set your max speed off gps based on where and what road your driving on. That would be a end to all speeding.

I just want a system that keeps people from camping in the left lane.

There is a drumbeat of change that is not inspiring,,,

.....Volvo setting speed limiters in all of its cars ( which others will doubtless follow),talk of autobahn speed limits, the advent of self-driving cars, the generational shift with the web, Uber, Amazon, Uber Eats, Urbanization, which reduces the need to go anywhere. Younger people are significantly less like to have drivers' licences than in the past.

I think we had the best of it.

I am heading for Germany in mid-May and fully intend to enjoy the autobahns and tracks before the day where we are all reading our phones while being transported in autonomous electric pods with voice control.

A shot through the heart of all auto enthusiasts. In future why bother spending money on a sports car with zero "sport" left.

If it happens here, my car insurance better drop...somehow I'm sure it won't though.

Show up at a random house, pizza pockets & Red Bull in hand, and the basement dweller computer wiz will have the speed limiter software hacked in 10 minutes.

True, but doubtless will then invalidate your insurance in the new surveillance world.

Littering a stir stick will be a 2000 dollar fine to replaced that speeding revenue

This, 1000%. No speed limiting in my 87. No obd plug for the insurance company to plug in their ball and chain, no tracking device for the police to still be unable to locate it after it's stolen, etc etc etc.

This is exactly what the regulation is - GPS and front camera based to regulate the speed based on the road you are on.
You can turn it off when you start the car - but you'll have to do that every time.

Of course anyone who thinks cars drive too fast down their road can just make a "20" sign and stand out by the side of the road and cars will magically slow to 20.............so it's clearly not a perfect system.
