Do you think this is a total loss?

The corruption, collusion and theft in the Ontario auto insurance and collision repair industry is pretty much unprecedented... it is MASSIVE. Body work repairs are regularly overinflated by roughly 300% from what they actually cost. There's needless labour and materials included in every quote, and this is an industry-wide problem. Every insurance agent at the collision reporting centers gets a free one week vacation package for every 10 cars they put through if that gives you an idea of the magnitude of the scam.

Thanks everyone! A lot of great info here. Especially those actual part prices from Freakhead. I was looking for that info online earlier, and couldnt find it.
I will keep that in mind. He may also be interested in a set of Koni FSD shocks I have. Brand new. Was going to install them but then the accident happened, so listed for sale:

car is only worth maybe 4k retail so yes insurance will write it off. Make a deal and keep it and fix it yourself!
If not happy with the insurance payout, pm me and I can advise you how to get more $

Thanks for checking in. Turns out, the insurance company is swamped now, due to a recent wave of bad weather in Toronto resulting in many accidents and claims.
I took the car to the body shop, but they said they cant do anything until the insurance company sends out a field rep to look at it. If I had gone to one of their 'approved' shops, then it can be done quicker. Otherwise, you have to wait 2 to 7 business days from the escalation I put in yesterday. Spent 90min in the queue just to get to talk to a rep to log the escalation. Originally claim was reported on Tuesday.
For all the money you give to the insurance companies, they sure do work slow.
The body shop looked at the damage, and priced it out to roughly $2000-$5000 in parts, with a used tailgate. Its hard to see the full extent of the damage until they get it on a hoist. Labor would be extra.
Hopefully, the Adjuster will get out to see the car next week.

when a car is deemed a write off sometimes some insurance cos will offer you (or you can ask) for the write off ACV (actual cash value)minus the salvage value and then you keep the car with no branding. I did this a few years ago.

Thanks. How do you know the INS company is not giving you an inflated salvage value to reduce your ACV ?

well, got the news today and...
its a write off!
Adjuster came out to take a look at it, and quote was $5k, with a chance of further damage that could not be easily seen. Car is only worth about $5k, so they wrote it off.
Bought a local A6 3.0t Avant to replace it. One wagon to another.
Hopefully they are fair with the payout on the A4. I should know in a couple days.
the new wagon...
