Drive Clean Required on Used Vehicle Purchase?
For the life of me I can't ascertain whether or not a drive clean test is required on a used vehicle I am purchasing. Drive clean site asks for sticker renewal date and year of car to determine if a test is required, however, in that the car doesn't have a valid sticker (yet) I'm in the dark. I know the test itself is gone in April and is currently free but don't want to ask the seller to have it done if it isn't required. Thanks.

Thanks - car is on 07' and my birthday is in December, however when I put those parameters in the drive clean site is states 'test required'. That is for a renewal of course as opposed to a transfer which by the sounds of things is 'exempt'. Looks like I'm free and clear and have saved a few hours of aimlessly walking around Canadian Tire.

^ This.
The MTO site will tell you whether the vehicle needs an e-test based on the VIN irrespective of the transfer. You no longer need a new e-test because you are transferring the ownership of the vehicle if the vehicle has a valid e-test on record (i.e. one performed during the 365 days before your next birthday, which is when your plate sticker expires). Just helped a friend buy a street-legal track car ('93 Miata) and she needed an e-test as her birthday is at the end of this month and the MTO would not issue a plate sticker without one.
