Default anyone know how to test drive porsche 911 w/o putting down deposit?

hello all. So I heard if you want to test drive porsche cars at porsche dealership, you must put down $1000 non-refundable deposit (that will only go into credit once purchase a porsche from dealership). So, I wondering how do I test drive different porsche to see which one is suitable for me? I am trying to decide cayman vs 911 vs macan. Thanks.

Where did you hear that? If a dealership tells you that then I would run out the front door at full speed. You don't want to do business with them. I think you should pick a sales person and sit down and talk to them a bit. They will want to know you are not wasting their time but that is why they have test cars. How are you cross shopping a Macan and a 911 though? Not really interchangeable.

Never give any deposit or let anyone run your credit for a test drive.

It's not a Canadian thing. I was never asked for anything other than my license to take a test drive.

Never put a deposit down on test drive. Many times, the sales guy just handed me the keys, although I have bought several vehicles from the dealership.

To OP:
Have you actually gone to a dealership yet? You mentioned you “heard” so assume that is from a friend.

I have never needed to put down a deposit for a test drive. Just needed to provide my drivers license and they just give me the keys (no salesperson ride along).

The best thing is just to go in and speak to somebody. Like any sales person they just want to know you aren’t wasting their time.

So bad!

Worst I had was buying my A6 from Downtown Audi. Sales Manager wanted a copy of my credit card to know that I was serious before discussing pricing. Complete BS. Told them no way. In hindsight should've walked away from that dealership but ended up buying it from them (w/o providing my credit card).

OP is basically saying you have to pay $1000 for a test drive unless you buy then only will you get a credit. All of it is just wrong. Which dealer?

Never heard that and it is not a Montreal or Québec thing for sure either. In my last month of shopping it's always been the salesman who suggested I test drive cars. Thank god they don't charge.
After test driving a 718 Boxster GTS he then came back with the keys to the 911 Carrera S. Didn't ask for a credit card or a cheque for $

Never been asked.
Likely it's a method some dealers randomly practice to filter joy rides from test drives.
Not an exact science, obviously.

Never had that happen at a Porsche dealer.
I did have something similar happen to me at a BMW dealership whereby they wanted me to put down a $5k refundable deposit on a purchase agreement for an M4.
Needless to say, I expressed my displeasure and left.
