Default Ontario Drive Clean to be scrapped

Looks like the target date is April 1, 2019. When they started to look for CEL codes, it became pretty useless anyway.

TORONTO — The Ontario government says it is scrapping the Drive Clean vehicle emissions testing program and replacing it with a new system that will focus on heavy duty vehicles such as transport trucks.

The Progressive Conservative government says the Drive Clean program, which tests emissions every two years on cars and light-duty trucks over seven years old, is outdated and no longer effective.

The province says the program worked well when it was introduced in 1999 and but grew less useful as the automotive industry adopted more stringent emissions standards.

As a result, the government says, only five per cent of vehicles failed the test last year.

The Tories say a new program will be introduced to target emissions from heavy duty vehicles, which they say have weaker emissions standards and get replaced less frequently.

They say the proposed changes will be subject to a 30-day public consultation.

boo, had the post going and then someone called me, didn't hit send until later, and it looks like I was beaten to the punch! Feel free to delete, looks like I don't have the option to do it myself.

No worries being beaten to the punch by "Turbo Ronnie". It's worth reporting twice.

Good 1st step
The Liberals made it "free" a few years back but off set the "free" by raising license renewal fees.
So instead of drive clean every few years, it was a renewal fee every year so it actually cost us more.
Would be nice if they lowered that as well.

Now lest lift the ban on pesticides next!

The next step is the removal of physical stickers, a price increase for renewals and more profits for the government. Wait for it.
