Since you have his ear, can you tweet him and make another suggestion; to get the Ontario Ministry of Transportation to get off their asses and have a Program to replace all the defective license plates that are falling apart in front of our eyes, it's a F**king disgrace. To help pay for the Program, please suggest cutting cost by getting rid of the requirement for a front license plate and replace only the defective rear license plate.
Thanks

There are all sorts of otherwise intelligent people whose dearth of facts, related education or expertise in a particular area lead them to all sorts of wacky views and conspiracy theories. Though initially humorous and somewhat engaging, it becomes tedious to pursue them at length.

Aw, come on guys. How's a gentleman (ahem) of leisure to amuse himself and relax after a hard day of mountain biking (like today), skiing, Porsche polishing, etc.? Now, about that health care system...….

They already do. It's the drivers that refuse to come in to replace them, in most cases it's free. Unless your plates warranty has expired, in which case you will have to pony up $59. Currently anything at or above BD (first two letters) is free. Since I manage a Service Ontario I sometimes tell people they can get a free plate when I see a peeled plate and that they may get a ticket, every single time I have done this the people don't seem to care. But when they come in years later usually after getting a ticket, then they complain that their plate is no longer covered under the warranty program.
So it's the drivers that need to get off their asses. LOL

I went in on Friday and got new plates for my DD 2006 Jetta TDI... Most of the paint was gone around the front plate, and some of the white paint had worn off the rear plate....
Now my 12 yr old daily driver is shiny all over... (well almost) -pic of DIY paint job on my front driver side door, and the old peeling plate.... You can read more about the rust repair at: rust repair - jetta door

This summer I replaced plates that were ~25 years old (three letter, three digit ones) without any charge. Maybe the Service Ontario clerk has some leeway to warranty the plate? The front one was fine but the blue paint had worn completely off the rear ones.

Only leeway would be head office allowing it and at 25 years the answer would be a firm no. They won't budge on anything over 5 years when we call for upset customers. There is no function in the system to override any charge. So either you did pay and didn't notice or the clerk messed up and was out $59 that day. But who knows with our government, it wouldn't surprise me if they are treating the Ottawa area differently then the rest of us. If you can find your receipt I would be like to know more.

I just checked my receipt and no $59 fee. I had a lot to do at the kiosk that day: 3 plate sticker renewals, one plate replacement, drivers license renew with photo and health card renew. Maybe the clerk forgot the $59 amidst all the stuff we were doing. It was my birthday (the clerk did wish me) so I guess a got a birthday present.
