Estimated value of a 996
Its a 2000 with the 6 speed. 78000 miles. Former Texas car. Appears all stock except for aftermarket rims (19's ugggg!), and stereo. Runs good. Its located here in NL local to me.

I think they are just triggering off your user name Paul
I would never go near a m96 engine unless it was cheap enough i could throw the car away, especially without service records
Want to have it checked for ims and bore scoring for sure

LOL sorry Paul your username slipped into my subliminal ha ha!
M96's can be reliable if they are taken care of. Clive is just an old fart that loves the air cooled stuff!
No maintenance history = IMS, RMS, clutch, engine mounts, suspension, coils, plugs etc. Look to spend $5k on it to make it reliable.
2000 with the 3.4 doesn't bore score very often, but they do crack heads. Check the oil filler neck for white goo.
I just sold a 2002 which is the updated 996.2 with the 3.6 with everything done, paint very good, immaculate interior for 30k. Subtract about 4K for the earlier version and subtract all your maintenance costs needed from that to come to your number. I would say its a high teens car, Canadian funds.

No sign of white goo or blow by at filler neck. No sign of smoke on start up or while driving. Lots of black smoke at first and an oily smell.......but that has cleared up since I've been driving it.(hard)
Low teens a good deal????

$15-20k.
Stock wheels and stock stereo would help. Otherwise it might have a little harder time moving.
Given how low these 996's have become, they are becoming attractive Porsche buys for budget minded enthusiasts.
Same for the early boxsters.
