OT: 1st indoor gokarting experience
Had my 1st indoor gokarting experience while on a trip to Halifax NS last week. Both kids and parents had a blast.
Only other gokarting I did was at Santa's VIllage (5-10 yrs ago), or maybe Bingemans (a long time ago)
The place we went to was called Kartbahn. Carts were electric, had plenty of speed for the indoor track, could send the back end out on a couple of turns. It was $20 for an 8 minute session. ( Which makes trackdays at TMP not too bad. ) The facility had timers on the cars, and I beat the other 4 parents who were in my heat. Best time was 20.959seconds, The slowest time in our group was 23 seconds my son raced against 7 other kids (including his sister) and got 4th best lap time in a group of 8 (32 seconds)
Not enough room to pass really, or not enough speed differential. It was fun to catch people, but passing meant putting them into the tire walls.
Now looking at places near KW to try it on occasion.

I've carted a few time. Gas carts are fun, but smelly in the winter with closed doors.
Gas carts, seem to vary a lot in power.
I would imagine, electric carts being a lot closer in performance. And of course not smelly. Other than the filthy helmet....

Kartbahn is awesome. They used to have gas cars when they started. Slowly moved to 100% electric. I miss the sensory feedback of the gas cars, but the electrics have WAY more torque, just top out faster. The slippery indoor surface is really the equalizer, making it "feel" way faster than it is, as you can maintain the absolute limits of grip all the time.
