Did you get the GT4 already? If not, R8 seems like a good option - in the US they are already commanding a markup and causing quite a stir. Sucks about the BC tax, but maybe the lease approach discussed on another thread is a viable option. GT4 is a good car too, though, especially if biased towards manual.

Picked up the white GT4 this AM.

The RWS is clearly a good deal for what it is - probably a smart move too. Plus that virtual dash looks awesome!

It was a fun ride home - took the long way and spent a few minutes on Sea to Sky.

I think you're way better off with the GT4. From what I can see the RWS is not dramatically differently setup than the regular R8 and it's as dull as a spoon to drive. It looks great and is fast but has NOWHERE near the direct and responsive feel of a GT car. If the GT4 feels anything like a GT3 then the RWS has nothing on it in enjoyment IMHO.

It may have been fast but it sure felt like it took forever! I’m sure it’s the same with you guys but the process was very encompassing and distracting to life! I’m happy it’s done.

Yep, the 996TT was sold within 24hrs of me putting it on Craigslist on the weekend. Such a great car.

No matter which way you would have gone, it would have been a good decision!

That said, my personal opinion is that the GT4 is incredibly brilliant value, even at the higher prices they are trading at. When the car was launched, I though it was a smoking deal, and looking back, Porsche probably underpriced it. I think is just a super balance of a fantastic driving machine with ultimate performance whilst not on the level of "real" supercars, is still far better than most of us will ever need.

Congratulations on a great purchase!

Yes, I couldn't find a car that made me as happy for less, regardless of what list price was on the GT4 (I paid a big premium!).
I found me a creampuff with 2200km on it, a DME with a few type 1s, no Type 2s or higher, in the spec I wanted (white, buckets, red belts, carbon interior, full leather, PDLS), plus some other good things about it....I had to ignore list price (also think underpriced) and just buy it. Being able to put my private car sale through the dealer as trade on this helped a lot too.

Thanks again for all the help all! I'm glad that I'm still in the family with the Pcar!

It was the one asking $57. Sold for $56 and I used that sale as a trade in through a dealer for my GT4, so $56+tax benefits.

Congratulations on the GT4! Have not driven the GT4, I drove the Cayman S at COTA in very challenging conditions and it was brilliant, only missing power which the GT4 has.
Regarding the R8 being dull I would disagree, with a good setup it is the opposite of dull. I drove a R8 V10 at TMP in 2010 set up by Courtney at EU Autowerks, dull is not a word I would use, including the passenger....
R8 is Definitely not a Porsche, but is very exhilarating to drive. IMHO

Too bad they don't bring back the gated shifter to go with it.

Thanks all

It is a brilliant car and it’s nice to be back in a midengine. It’s engine is “ok” but certainly more than enough for me. +50hp would be awesome. But after the 996Turbo which was an outright beast at any RPM, it’s just going to take some getting use to. The car has Trofeo Rs on it which are great in the dry but not a great Vancouver street tire given the rain we see. I’ve ordered some Michelin Sport S4s for it after almost spinning it in the rain Friday.
The buckets are so awesome in this car - make the car IMHO.
