Default Rebuild My Rack

So...I haven't found the leak yet, but my power steering fluid seems to have vanished. There are no leaks around the tank/pump, so I suspect the boots on the rack are filled with the stuff, and when I get a chance to look under the front end it will be obvious.

So...is there anywhere in the GTA that you would trust to rebuild a 996 steering rack?

Did she have mysterious fluid loss as well?

I would keep quiet about that if I were you.

In regards to the rack...nevermind.

$259 for a rebuilt rack. No core charge. I haven't found a leak yet, but...its got to be there somewhere.

Are you sure your rack is sagging, um, I mean leaking?
With my 996TT the steering fluid is shared with the clutch an there is a check valve that fails.
Lots of fittings that could leak.

The non-turbo 996 has the brake and clutch share fluid (in the frunk), and steering has a separate reservoir near the pump on the engine.

I am not sure that anything is leaking...except that the fluid was low, and it wasn't last year. There are no obvious leaks in the engine compartment. The next weak link is the rack.

Either that or someone drank my fluid.

My understanding is the brake and power steering systems on the non-turbo 996 are completely separate. The brake takes DOT4 and the PS takes CHF 11s. Am I wrong?

I think the clutch and power steering are on the same system. My memory is a bit fuzzy since it's been a while since I pulled my engine but I'm fairly sure they are the same system. If the rack boots are full of oil, you can easily check it. Release the outer clamp and stick a small screwdriver between the inner tire rod and the boot.
