It would be sad, they have already stopped building light weight cars though and are now promoting that the heavier cars grip the road better.

The comment that demand is falling is telling, however.

IMO a few reasons for that. Times are tough in NA. Other competition is less expensive so bang for the buck is not there. 911 is the flag ship and other less expensive models are treated like less and made to be slower and not given the same engines. 4 seats in the 911 and the countless variations of models give it a bigger market. Macans and Cayennes are doing really well, they have the Family man who wanted a sport car but needs a van market.

No question that CUVs and SUVs are the market, ( as well as pickups in the US). Sedans are utterly dead, and it appears that the sports car market is dicey. If you look at the new UCR members each month in Provinz the majority are Macans and the like. Even Ferrari is going to do an SUV just as Lambo, Bentley and even Rolls have done.

The days of the raw, edgy car are quickly declining. I had M5s in the old days that were brilliant cars, but look at BMW now....virtually no separation from the regular line. Used to have utterly unique engines and prooduction lines. Now they build monstrous things like the X6M.

The big problem will be endless regulation at all levels. Europe continually tightens the knot and its not over. Even here you have the endless drumbeat of the hacks at the Star whining about cars and traffic and dreaming that people will wait at snowy stops to board street cars. Sure, people will talk about a few manual 911s but it is increasingly a niche, just as there are no manual Ferraris for instance. 992 GT3 will be twin turbo if rumour is correct.

Agree regulations and the expectation that a sport car is now suppose to be an entertainment center and the focus on luxury vs performance. Then there is increased need for service vs ever lasting cheap consumables. The cars are so heavy now they require expensive consumables that wear quickly to fulfill the performance aspect of the car.

The future of the 911 is mid engine so why have both? Just wondering this out loud based on the latest mid engine RSR.

I was thinking that myself but don't want to image it.

Problem if they want to retain the 2+2 configuration. I have seen the inside of an RSR and theres no space for even a tiny back seat.
