Epoxy Garage Flooring
Has anyone here coated their concrete garage floor with an epoxy coating? I'm curious to know how it holds up in our climate and if there are any drawbacks in general. I've read that hot tires can leave tire marks, but other than that it's an upgrade to bare concrete. Any first hand experience would be much appreciated. Also, if you have a preferred vendor/installer, let me know!

Not in Canada, but only separated by the great state of Minnesota. We did our new 4 car garage in it. I think it was around $5000 USD. One year in, but worth it. Hydrophobic and much easier to clean. Pair with a drain or two and water supply in the heated garage and you’re in business.

I got a quote not long ago for C$2500 to do a double car garage with industrial strength epoxy and the vendor says it'll take 3 days to complete so I decided to pass.

I put an epoxy floor on my single car garage floor about 4 or 5 years ago. It has held up remarkably well, albeit I don’t have a lot of back and forth in the garage. I store my 911 in the garage during the winter and during the summer, the car is outside. When I was daily driving my 997, I did have the car in and out of the garage during the winter and no issues. Pretty easy to clean it come spring time. Garage Living did the floor and also the organization of my garage. I think there is a thread on here from a few years ago with some pics.

In addition to epoxy coating there's concrete grinding. That starts with rough grinding 20-50 grit and gradually going finer and finer up to 3500 which is mirror smooth. Not that you'd want that in a garage, but it's the ultimate in floors and there's a few companies doing in your area. Give Mr Google a dingle.

Thanks for the replies, I'll do some searching. It looks really cool but I'm not convinced if it's really worth the cost. Maybe as an overall garage project. Thanks again for the info!

I’m in NCal, Bay Area. I had mine done 3 yrs ago. It’s a 2 stage epoxy and a sealer top coat. Took a day and a half. You have to completely empty the garage to have it done right. I am completely pleased with the result. There were a few cracks in the concrete floor which were ground down and filled in before the expoxy was done. Absolutely no issues with hot tires. 3 yrs with no issues. My 2 car garage was 2k.

I am in London Ontario and did my 2 1/2 Garage floor with Epoxy 5 years ago.
Still looks like the day we put it down.
After winter we just hose it down and it comes back like new.

I just built a garage. I thought about epoxy but it was too much money for my 'working' garage. I ended up going with a special paint instead that allows me to recoat as needed, is durable, is very chemically resistant and importantly didn't break the bank. Whatever you do I would suggest you stay away from the DIY kits at the big block stores. I researched them and didn't hear many great things.

I use poly based or urethane based in garages depending on the accepted bids.
make sure you make a cut joint under the garage door so the product does not leave the garage.
if you can have the last 8" ground down towards the cut joint the finish will flush up with the exterior concrete.
I sometimes have stone instead of concrete from garage door to driveway.
except when I have rooms below the garage.
if it gets outside it has a tendency to flake up at the end of the concrete.

Hi, We at Mantis Racing used FFC Focus Flooring and Construction to expoxy the shop floor. The floor has taken all the punishment we can dish out. Call Tim 416-909-2044

IMHO just porcilen tile it. Thats what I did. Indestructible. No black from your tires sticks. No real prep. Can get the stuff for a few $ per sq. foot. Add install if not inclined to do yourself. Did my two car garage for about $1200 doing labor myself. Will outlast me.
