To clarify, I didn't at all mean to group you in with those folks - your beef sounds completely legit. Sorry if I gave that impression!

Looking at the fracture, this was cracked for a long time before it gave out.

Sorry if I meant to imply that , I did not , I just meant the car has been towed there and on the hoist .. its not easy to have it taken somewhere else now without incurring even more cost..

Yeah that break looks weird, looks old though and it finally gave way ..

I agree. It's a weird break in a weird spot. I just don't get how that means no warranty coverage.

Keep talking to Ford Canada, show them pictures of the failure. Keep the dealership out of it until Ford headquarters makes the final decision.

This kind of thing is part of why it blows my mind that some people refuse to buy used cars, primarily due to lack of warranty. Hey, if you're buying new because you can only get what you want new, and the money isn't an issue, good on you. But if you buy a brand new car because you think the warranty is going to save you money, while eating 20%+ depreciation in the first year alone, well... that doesn't make sense.

I'm almost happier having cars out of warranty since it means I can deal with whomever I want for repairs (or even do simple ones myself).

Unfortunately, Ford Canada will not accept pictures from anyone but the dealership. I have two options:
1) file a formal complaint with Ford canada. I may get a call or something.
2) drop it. Save my energy.

Well, I'm probably going to go with the first option, but it's just really disappointing. So many cars I wanted to.own (gt350, gt500, focus rs). Now, not a chance.

All they had to do was either submit the warranty claim to Ford Canada, or give me a solid reason for denying the claim. If the reason is that they think the car has been in an accident, prove it. Get a paint meter reading. Show me replace suspension parts. Anything.

Silly.

Not many industries you can accuse your customer of something, assume them guilty of something and dismiss them . I would think most companies work on KEEPING customers. I guess hey have so many they just don't care.

Plus you have to keep in mind your service writer is incentivized, so he makes money on any part he sells you . Like most things, follow the money .

+1 odd failure point, and very much looks like a defective casting... not user fault.

The abuse thing is funny, it's not like the Feista ST is pumping out an insane amount of power

A new OEM part on rock auto is 150$ plus shipping.

Looking at the busted cv shaft, it looks like the outer circumference of the break happened awhile ago and might have been defective from the factory, which in turn caused the inner part to break leading to total failure

-----

Surprisingly, our q7 had 3yrs of extended warranty as a CPO car.... we were pretty lucky in terms of not paying for any repairs... oil leaks from turbo oil return, both front LCA's, adblue system.

O/P - when the front drive shaft of my X5 broke and fell off in june. The part had a serial number and vin on it.
Does ford do that? Any documentation tying it to your vehicle? If not perhaps get your shop to tag it for your records.
In the event there is a future recall, You can prove that this is from the recalled vehicle.

thanks. I would’ve thought ford would want to examine it, and see how it could fail. We’ll see.

Anyways, I filed the complaint yesterday. The customer service people have been kind and helpful. We’ll see what ford says, as I assume I’ll get a call at some point.

I'm sure you'll be taken care of ultimately, years ago I used to work for Ford as a Performance Parts Specialist... let it be known the issue is being discussed in public/forums and that this car WAS(is?) your gateway into the brand's upper end models..

This is actually very true , back in my 20s I was a GM guy , didn't like Ford or Chrysler but thought GM and particularly Pontiac had some nice cars.. I bought a one year old Pontiac for them and was totally disrespected by them on an issue I had. Swore to them I would NEVER buy one of their products again , to this day have not, never chose one out of the 15 company vehicles I have had, or had one for my wife at the time or my son.
If I had still been a hard core GM guy who knows how many I would have bought or what I would be driving today. So it really does matter ...
