White hell
Today, driving back from a visit at Thunder Beach near Midland on county rd 6 I got an experience I haven't had for a long time. It's called white hell, that instant when visibility drop to zero, not difficult but zilch, nada, nothing. The wind was blowing snow hard across a flat field and the condition lasted for about 200 metres. I dropped my speed to about 20 k and engaged the hazard lights and hoped for the best. It was pucker moment thats for sure. Driving conditions are apparently going to be like that all day up here. Good luck to anyone heading this way.

Spent my summers from 0-13 at Thunder Beach. Great place, nice sandy beaches. Ballard used to have the Stones up there every summer for a week or so.

Yes, I've had lunch at True North. Bill was highly respected in the community and his memory still is respected. He showed up a little league games, and all kinds of community stuff and gave generously.

It's been like that all day today in Buffalo--there was a SEVENTY-FIVE car accident on the Thruway today caused by prolonged whiteout conditions .
Glad I wasn't in it, and glad you made it out of your situation alive

There are a several big worries when entering the White Helll, first is the oncoming driver didn't adjust and will head on, second is that I will run into a wreck created in the first scenario, the third is that the snow has drifted and its deep enough to stall me and then I'm a sitting duck waiting to get hit. It's a ****ing nightmare.

we used to play baseball at the field by the Church 3 days a week. I used to ride my mini bike there to the games (Kawasaki KV75 3 gears down, no clutch)...good times.

Drifting
Pack you car with boots, snow pants, jacket, mits, hat. I have a candle/matches in every car. Even a tow strap. Brother in law travels in leather shoes and blazer.
Lots of white outs today too.

Today I drove Barrie to Guelph and back, mostly 24/124 and for the most the roads were clear, however sections were very white and roads were covered in -24C. I realize that I'm probably conservative in my driving in this case 70 in an 80, and lo and behold was passed on a snow covered road by a pickup pulling a trailer. And we wonder why there are Police patrols, I wonder why there aren't more?

Happened to me once between Toronto and Windsor on the open flats, but the worst was during a high school ski trip in the Alps. As we were coming down suddenly everything went white, like someone had just reset our session in the matrix and nothing was loaded. Craziest thing to just see your body and nothing else around you.
Luckily I had all stoped shortly after I realized I no longer had any bearing, as when it cleared I was heading straight off a small cliff. Fun stuff.
Glad it all worked out for you.
