My Canadian Tire batteries last up to a decade on a cigarette lighter trickle charger whenever they're not in use and 7 years otherwise. Run the wire through a point where the closed door won't crush the wire rather than an open window.

I've been using the CTEK for years and used to leave the window open ever so slightly but in the last two years I'm able to leave the wire at the bottom of the door sill and barely make a crease in the wire with the door completely closed.

What do folks do when you don't have access to power to plug into? I used an underground garage with no power and just start it every couple weeks for 10 minutes. Any better ideas?

That's the worse thing you can do. Battery isn' ggoing to charge at idle and worse the engine won't get warm enough and you will have oil dilution along with moisture in the exhaust system.

Can you remove the battery and bring it indoors?

I haven't had any issues with battery charge for last 3 winters. Maybe I've let it run a little longer (15 min) and I can actually drive car and do a couple laps underground. I'm just concerned with taking battery out and resetting everything. This way I also get keep tires and parts moving a every couple weeks over the winter months. I change oil first thing in spring.

I have a second battery in the frunk that is connected with booster cables, every couple of weeks I take it home and top-up the charge.

Take battery out and leave it. Starting it for 10 minutes is about the worst thing you can do

If the car is parked UG just leave as is. Assuming the battery is fully charged it will be just fine come spring and no need to remove the battery, though i'd pull battery - cable to eliminate any parasitic loss.

But then the car is sitting in a public parking lot, with NO alarm system, and an open/unlocked frunk lid??

Drive your car 12 months a year. It'll take it. It was built to do it.

As to the tender. I have a CTEK and have mounted the quick release to the battery so I can plug it in when I pull into the garage at the end of the day. This keeps my battery at optimal operation 100% of the time.
As a side note, my wife's Audi Q5 was supposed to get a new battery (according to the dealer) so I hooked her car to a CTEK and she has a perfect battery more than a year later. Her battery is six years old now and functioning perfectly. CTEK will condition the battery. Jay Leno has a piece on his site that shows him using CTEK on ALL of his cars.

The frunk will be unlocked, right, with his recommendation to disconnect the battery cable? Or how else would you easily access the frunk come spring. And what if some passerby closes down on the lid in a public garage?
