I had a wrx for a couple years and an sti for a few more. They were great winter cars with snow tires. The sti is almost unstoppable. Light and a natural tendency to dig in and pull you where you point the wheels. They holder their value relatively well also. A bit of a crude suspension and not great shifter feel.

I was tempted by the Focus RS but I saw so many reviews talking about its rough ride I didn't pursue it. If people complain in the summer, then driving it in the winter on frozen snow/roads with hard suspension would be terrible.

Thought hard about the Audi RS3. Fun car with lots of new tech and 400hp. Never drove the Golf R but it may be the sweet spot with price/4wd/quality.

Why bother spending funds on a performance hatchback when a regular four wheel drive car would do. I guess its to look good while your going 30km hr through the snow.

I've bought multiple cars from Park Avenue, always had a great experience especially with service.

Don't know if you noticed but that R is lowered and has a lip kit on it (dont know if OEM or aftermarket). I'd say that increases the chance it was or is tuned as well. Anyways most Rs will have been owned by enthusiasts.

In Southern Ontario we're driving around winter "beaters" for close to half the year, yet how often do we actually get snow? I get the appeal to a fun car for the cold months too.

Because life’s too short and winter is too long to drive a crappy car for 5 months. A sporty awd car make the winter more fun. Any car will do any time, summer or winter.

Here's a novel idea, you can always just drive your Porsche. Its not like 997's are collector cars - just enjoy them all year round

I get it if you have a gt3rs or 930 turbo but reg 997's/991's, why bother?

Thanks for the input everyone!

I`ve made the choice and put down the security deposit. Car will be delivered at the end of the month.

The choice really came down to the deal. Both are high performance hatch with different approach, AWD and look good.

In the end, VW wasnt discounting as much (and it was modified), and with RS from Porsche London, i was able to get 2k off. So bought it without even seeing the car.

As for the comment about why needing high performance hatch in the winter when normal 4wd is good enough?

``why not`` would be my answer.

Nobody needs ``highperformance vehicles`` we just want it. Same reason people go crazy over GT cars. Why do you need GT3, GT4 and rs?

Mind you, I will also use RS for occasional track days as well. Rs comes with Cup2 tires as well as winter setup.

Nice!
My friend Jeff asked me for a sales reference (Tim Bamford) for a friend of his interested in the RS there... wouldn't happen to be you?
Enjoy!

"....Rs comes with Cup2 tires as well as winter setup."

If they give you wheel locks, get he stock wheel nut as well. No point tossing them.
Personally I hate wheel locks, they just inconvenience the owner.
I'm assuming you will have the car delivered on the snow tires. Don't even try and drive it in a month on those Cup2 tires. If they are bagged, check for the center cars are on. If the winter wheels run an different nut? Make sure they give you the oem ones.
And of course, pictures of the delivery. So we can live vicariously.
Drive safe, leave the honing for youtube.
