Is it legal to debadge or rebadge the car in Ontario?
Searched online and got a lot of conflicting informations, and most of them is about US not Canada.
Does anyone tried to debadge or rebadge your car? Ever got any trouble from police or insurance company?
Thank you.
I am actually going to put a Volkswagen emblem over the porsche hood emblem to pretend my 911 as a beetle. Back to the very origin.

It is actually illegal to REbadge a car, if you're adding something that isn't true - for example adding a 4x4 badge to a car that isn't. At least, that's the case for dealers. Not sure if it applies to the public.

you can do what you want.
As long as you do not try to resale it as such under false pretence.
Not sure i would put a VW emblem on my 911, but then again all my 911s are $50k + cars...........
You must have a boxster or 996?

It's be like a kit car then. Doesn't matter what it is on the outside.
It's about the chassis. Kinda 0f like those kit car Speedsters. They're registered as VW's

Many buy and remove the badges and emblems altogether anyway.

That's an Easter Block thing in Europe. People debadge their cars so others wouldn't know they cheaped out and bought the model with the smallest engine.
Reminds me of my trip to Cuba 2 weeks ago. Needed to know the time so I asked a car load of people that jsut got to a bar what time it was. All 4 of them wore "gold" watches but only one of them had a working one. I thought it was hilarious!

"18. If any badge or other indication on the motor vehicle relates to a different model than the model of the vehicle, a statement to that effect."

The Consumer Protection Act is pretty clear about it in Part III section 14 (2) 1:
Examples of false, misleading or deceptive representations
(2) ...the following are included as false, misleading or deceptive representations:
1. A representation that the goods or services have...performance characteristics, accessories...benefits or qualities they do not have.
3. A representation that the goods or services are of a particular standard, quality, grade, style or model, if they are not.

I've snipped the irrelevant bits out, but that's pretty clear. Selling a BMW with a fake M badge is illegal. Though putting one on, driving around and looking like a loser, then taking it off when you sell, is legal.

I just had a quick look at the MVDA. Section 42 par. 18, part of a list of required disclosures on a sales or lease contract, includes:
"18. If any badge or other indication on the motor vehicle relates to a different model than the model of the vehicle, a statement to that effect."

Thank you very much, really solved the question.
