996 car check/price check
2001 Carrera, 100k kms, $29k
http://wwwb.autotrader.ca/a/Porsche/...0418141806717/
Seems expensive, but I really haven't been keeping an eye on the prices as of late. Just trying to scratch my dedicated track car itch. What say you?

black on black 3.4 996 ? what a unique combo
seems rich for a 3.4 996.
IMS been done ? im not sure this is the dual row. I am right in the middle of a 996 project with a buddy with a cracked head. and intermix, what a mess. I wouldn't touch one unless I was prepared to have the car engine disintegrate. that's just me though . at 10-15G I might take a chance, at 30 no bloody way.

Unknown history of the IMS/RMS according to the dealer... but a "bunch of receipts". I figure this could be a good bargaining chip if it came down to it, but $30k seems far too much.

'01 has the single row bearing. It does have low Kms so that's probably for the premium price.

The 996 seems to be going up in price. I have been watching the *asking* prices over the last three years, and the bottomed out about a year ago. You used to be able to find good examples in the low 20s with some not bad but rough ones in the high teens.
The interesting thing is that in the US the prices are much higher. Sure examples exist that show otherwise, but in general, buying a 996 in the US does not make sense even before you factor in the currency exchange.
A good to excellent condition Canadian 996 is a good deal between $20k-$25k.

If you are serious about actually learning to drive fast, and not just having fun, you cannot do better than the 944 platform. Is it cheap? What part of Porsche and track car makes you think it's cheap?
The Miata and the 944 have similar benefits... soooo many people track these that a lot of the issues have been figured out.
If you want a 944, do yourself a favour and pay the extra money to buy one that is already sorted for the track. Not built for the track, not driven on the track, sorted for the track. Meaning fast, capable, reliable, and proven.
