Sorry to hear that John. I suspect given providence you will find alot of small niggling things like this over coming months that need to be sorted out in succession. Its just part of the process of creating a reliable package. Hopefully you are through the worst of it now although it must be driving you crazy. When I did the targa a number of friends said "hey why not by a cheap 30K 911 (964?) and do it in that incase you bin it". But the event including travel was a 8-10K investment for me and I had a think about it - I know my 993 intimately having been through every system to enhance, replace or service and I know (as far as you can) its a pretty bullet proof car so I took the 993. The last thing I wanted was a break down on day one after all that expense and hassle to get to the event! Even with an almost new RS LWFC and Clutch I almost got caught out when the pinion drive seal started weeping towards the end of teh event creating a little slippage at peak torque. Luckily it lasted fine and got me home no issues but goes to show even stuff that's supposed to have been done already isnt always perfect.
On the bright side by this time next year you will have a 100% reliable package that you wouldn't questions pressing into service for the SITT etc. Sure by then your 964 will owe you close to 80+K but hey, its only money and in the bigger scheme of things not so much afterall. Cheaper than a drug habit at least (I think?).

Santas coming all at once over the next few weeks. These are the custom RHD RS CF door cards just curing after manufacture. To give some idea on weight reduction with CF fittings, handles and red door straps plus the new Polyglass Focal coaxil speaker (built in cross over in rear magnet) these door panels will weight around 5kg less each side than the current factor door panel with speakers, cross overs and door pocket. The only loss of practicality is the door pocket (which I may add a leather pocket later)...
As far as Im aware these are the first RHD ones that have ever been made...I had the holes pre cut before pregnation.

The P.O. was circa 50 when he bought it. 15 years later, he sold it, just before passing away. All evidence to date is a sedately driven DD with what I'd say is a typical Kiwi maintenance protocol i.e. the minimum neccesary to keep it running. The mileage over the later years was modest.
What I'm experiencing now is a catch up of deferred maintenance as we go through items that were not working or are close to their use by date. Some people prefer to keep these things to themselves, whereas I choose to share the detail, because it adds to the info on these cars. I've used others' info myself e.g. Jason's planetary gear woes. It's part of the ownership experience for me.
I don't think I'll get anywhere near $80k in the car anytime soon. Aside from the parts bought so far it will be all about improving the driver from here-on out. There is so much driving craft to get right. If it was all about speed I'd just put the 996TT up to 500 hp and be done with it. I've got four sessions at HD prior to the NITT. Hopefully, I'll be sniping at a few bumpers (safely) by then!

Further to Macca's comments above, he is correct that there is no such thing as a cheap Porsche, especially when taking it to the track, as everything has to be 100% or the car will fail.........
The best value Porsche is the one that the previous owner has dropped big $$ into and you buy at half of what it owes him.............

John. The end product and the fun you'll have with it will vilify the outlay, I have no doubt. The 80K figure was by the time of the SITT LOL! If you are somewhere between 60-70K by the time you get the car on the track with its fuches/tyres and painted and fitted ducktail by July then with brakes, pads, seats and other remedial items by March next year you may be surprised. If you need a boost drop me a PM and Ill help you along! Some black vinyl RS door cards would sure look nice in there with a Heigo half cage once you strip out the carpet and rear seats and Im sure we could advise on further suspension and cosmetic upgrades LOL! Thats what we are here for to feed your sickness...
As for bum time in seats you are dead on correct. Unfortunately this is what will send me to the back of the pack for NITT. Acutely aware that by 13 September two track days (HD on 7th being second) over 10 years with a 6 month gap between those two will relegate me back to near useless again. Its the constant challenge. By the end of the Targa Im back to better than I ever was, 6 months later and Im stuffing up 1 in 3 heel to toe changes again. Im hoping intensive sessions like NITT and SITT will help someone like me build a solid base so each time I dont have to start closer to the beginning. Im actually thinking I might go to the USA mid 2014 and spend a week at he Skip Barber race school (very intensive) just so I can once and for all get the basics and medium level race craft stuff nailed in one go. Im increasingly conscious that running around some ashfelt without a skilled instructor next to me is simply wasting alot of time on track (which I dont have to waste)!

Then will look at ITBs + Motec or Link as a stage 2. Stage 3 is e85.
Well, that's the plan right now anyway. I'm hoping to have stage 1 ready for August 11th track day but need to catch up with Steve.
My experience is Sean that it seems fast, close to the ground and go cart like whenever you get into your car after 3-4 months away! Its actually one of the most frustrating things about offshore however as you can have a tonne of changes made while you are away but when you get back it just seems, fast, low to the ground and go cart like! Only major changes (engine, suspension, tyres) become noticeable. You will definitely notice the extra torque and pull from your new engine tho...

Ooops! Steering wheels, bucket seats, half cage, RS rear carpet set, RS door cards, harness bar, 6 point belt system, decent FE bracket and Fire extinguisher and perhaps a few small luxury embellishments I myself have found VERY useful such as auto drivers window up/down module, auto dip rear mirror, wiper/rain sensors (no need to take hands off the wheel when it rains!). There you go another 8+K NZD with appropriate parts and labour...LOL!
On the subject of tempting people if anyone is wanting a CF strut brace for 993/964 Ill be parting mine next month. Its like new (shameless plug!). $250 pick up CCS.

I can also definitively state that the 964 won't be there.
As Peter knows (saw him at Contis this morning) I have a new problem. It appears that the lack of spirited use under the past ownership has allowed the rear slave cylinder to seize. Part # 928.332.775.12. Contis will see if a specialist can unsieze/rebuild it. If not, then we're looking at USD 354 used or USD 765 new. At this rate I may have to go back offshore to keep the Porsche passion alive....just joking.

I asked about driveability, but Dean is not keen to release the car with a faulty part. There's also the question of the clutch. For some reason the parts (RS) are giving a very short throw and he's investigating a solution, a threaded adjustable rod.
