Safety on UAE roads

Not sure how much traffic this part of the forum gets....but here goes

Considering a new 997(facelift) or a Cayenne GTS in the UAE. Daily ride about 50 kms. I'm starting to get more worried about safety on our crazy roads. Especially the trucks/bus with chest height bumpers etc.

Any of you guys put off a 997 for these reasons? I don't need the Cayenne for space as we have another SUV so would love the 997...but you know how it is here!...

Well....put off by a 997?? You must be joking. That said, I do have a SUV, a BMW X5 for the family and I am currently driving a 300ci Cabrio. BUt i am really getting tired of it and have been drawn back to the Porsche family. I am currently getting a 964 PPI at House of Cars and if all goes well, I will have a new toy to play around with.

I drive my GT3 everyday in Dubai, to Abu Dhabi and Al Ain. I do avoid the most truck-congested roads like Al Khail, Al Quoz and others 'high-risk' areas unless I absolutely have to go there.

Just buy the car you want to drive and be careful driving it!

Its not the driver infront of you that you should worry about...

Its the IDIOT behind you!!!

Almost got rear ended 3 times in one week...

Due to safety, i"m not getting a convertible, but i think a 997 protects you well. I'm always worried about the SUVs which are pretty high and might just jump over you in case of an accident (If you are in a 997). My uncle in the States got rear ended by a Landrover Discovery in his 996 and had some damage to his bumber. The Landrover was almost toast. Therefore, I believe that the 997 chassis is super strong, but there is an extra risk here due to all the high SUVs and they will not hit you on the bumper but above it.

yeah, I got hit from behind by a truck in Al Quoz, all the driver said was it's a mistake. fxxk!
Don't go to Al Quoz or be ware of the trucks in Dubai, fxxk them!
