G Class in PCA? Alive or a bit on the muted side?
Years ago i had a great G class boxster built by Deman. Was an awesome machine. After a bit of a break from racing, im hoping to get back to it a bit. Was contemplating some things, and just curious what happened to the G class? back then seemed like there were always a few G class cars, the 964s, the caymans, etc. F class was smaller. but seems now F class has a lot of cars and only a handful of G class out there.
any particular reason? just the way things went? or mabye some rules issue that stymied G class?
just curious what you all think about that class?

Certainly smaller than E or F. I've only seen one other Cayman besides mine (down at Sebring and the driver was from Chicago area). The class is mainly 964 cars and those guys are quick. There is a local 944 Rothmans car which was at MMC last year. This year we had 4-5 G cars at Sebring and WGI, there are 4 this weekend at VIR. I was the only G car at LRP and signed-up for MMC. Can't recall last year at NJMP but I think I may have been the only G. So, as mentioned, there is a lot of F and E competition and real diversity of cars. G much smaller but I'm enjoying it....my experience is somewhat abstract however given it is the only class that I've raced.

If you don't come back to G, it will have one less car, which then contributes to lower car count and ultimate demise of the class, so if you have the car, jump back in G. I only do 2 races per year in my 993, so hopefully you can do WG and SP where there are always a few cars.
I think except for E, all the "911 based" letter classes in PCA are suffering. I think all the 964/993 remaining in G (and H) are cars that have been around for a while. Some of these cars that would have made the natural progression from DE to racing are being converted back to street car, if possible due to value.

Hopefully I'll be back next year but I've said that the past 2 years. Other priorities. Potomac has a very strong G/964 group but just as I have - go in and out of track time.
I think the strong 964 prices are more of a hindrance of "new" 964s coming into racing. I don't see the higher prices as much of a deterrent for those who already have custom cages etc. (no turning back) but maybe I'm wrong.
I predict G will stay about the same for the foreseeable future - a few to 10 cars depending on the race. I do / did enjoy it even though it doesn't have E numbers.
Anthony, congrats on the new Glen record. I'm glad it is finally faster than E again.

Thanks Jim. Was happy with that 2:06.8. Fastest lap I had ever done by 2/10th. Of course, I managed to bend the car in half during the first sprint race so Hunter has left me for dead in the points championship. New G car coming and will make an attempt to catch back up second half of the season. Good luck and be safe for everyone going to VIR this weekend.

^ Hey Steve nice report and glad you're back out there.
Either the 997.2 Gt3 RS shifter or the Numeric (still available thru Tarett - make sure to get a bunch of spare bearings) would be the way to go.
For sure best to use RS29 pads to avoid 'ice pedal'. Also consider using a Gt3 master cylinder and 6-turbo brake booster upgrade as allowed in the rules.
