Nicky Hayden - Injured in road cycling accident
Hopes and prayers for Nicky. He remains in a medically induced coma after an incident training on a road bike the other day.
I started my track adventures nearly 15 years ago on bikes and very closely followed Nicky's career progression from AMA to GP and still follow him today in WSB. It's always great to have an American out there gunning for victory.

I really hope Nicky recovers from this. I used to root for him in MotoGP. It was great to have an American win the championship.
On car forums it's common to make jokes about cyclists, and I know most of it is tongue in cheek. But injuries and fatalities are commonplace. If everyone (cars and bikes) gave each other a bit more room, paid a bit more attention, and were a bit more patient most of these accidents could be avoided.

More irony.. and riding his bike to the hotel during a (corrected) Sebring race.
And folks think we live dangerous lives racing cars!!
I hope Nicky is a bit more lucky!

Can't help but draw a comparison to Schumacher. Guys who live on the edge of danger professionally and had their biggest injury from sports/leisure. Just horribly ironic.

I used to spend many hours riding road bicycles as part of my training routine. It's great cardio wise and I enjoyed the solitude on longer rides. I still ride occasionally for fun like charity events, but I changed my cross training to mountain bikes for self preservation reasons. Cars, pavement and other imoveable objects are more than a match for Lycra and a bit of carbon fiber and styrofoam.
This kind of thing seems to be happening way too often with two high profile deaths in the last couple of months.
Here's hoping Nicky pulls through this with no lasting effects.

Man, some of the accidents you can have cycling.....I watched quite a bit of last year's TdF and IIRC there were some pileups involving 10-20 bikes......almost like Talledega on two wheels!
In all seriousness, though, I don't know the true extent of his injuries but I hope he pulls through

Been a long time road cyclist and cross racer for over 25 yrs.. And have had many many close calls with vehicles. Something is definitely changing on the road. We had 2 riders on a group ride killed locally last yr. Today I picked up my first dual suspension mountain bike and plan on riding off road almost exclusively. Race cars are dangerous but I've become much more fearful of the average motorist..
Best to Nicky and his family!

I put away my road bike 2 years ago. Just too many close calls.
Sad news about Hayden, closed head injuries are finicky beasts. Hope he recovers intact.
