End of Turn 7, the left into the Uphill Esses while still on the flat.
James Clay had a big accident there and the only reason Fichter didn't hit anything hard was because they moved the barriers WAY back.
Either pinched, squeezed or bumped off...

It's a nasty looking crash, but on the positive side, the only times he would have experienced big deceleration forces are when the ends of the car bounced off the ground. That was cushioned to some extent by the ground and crumpling ability of the ends of the car, and his harnesses and head/neck restraint probably worked well for him.
I'm not sure that a lot was asked of the roll cage in this particular crash, but if the specifics of the roll had been a little different, the roll cage certainly could have made a big difference.
