Confirmed to be plug and play. This card (45 Mb/s) is one level down from the 90 Mb/s 600X card, but more than adequate and will work very well. The reason I know it's PnP is because it's 32 GB...

Cheers. I asked because I know (I think) that 32gb is on the cusp. If correct, that means 32.1gb cards require formatting. But I've been wrong before.

Many fine suggestions here. I routinely format my cards on my Mac, so this is should not be a problem. But you need to pay attention to the format type.
Given that some of your video played and others did not I wonder if your camera was prematurely shutting down? If the camera shuts down before it properly closes the video file, critical header information is not readable and yes - the file is there, but any player cannot see the meta data it needs to make sense of it.
You can recover such a file, but its very time consuming and non-trvial.
format issues aside, any chance the camera shut down before it stopped recording and closed the video file?

Been using VLC to open and play video from my SC HD on my Mac without issue. Would then edit in Race Render.
This past weekend at Mitty the only thing I changed was that I loaded a 128GB card but now only a couple of short files from early in the weekend were readable. The others (MOV files) will not open, though the file itself shows say, 1.7GB for a 30 min race as it normally would. So it appears there is data there but unreadable.
Any suggestions? There is some choice video of some cool cars

Success! The files (.MOV) open with VLC on my Mac but I can't edit them. I used to use RaceRender but when I drag the file in there, the file shows but no data present. I get a prompt that says "Select Data Template". Never got that before.
Starting anew- I guess the question is whats the best way to edit an .MOV file on a Mac?

For my simple needs, I use Quicktime 7 on my Mac.
MpegStream also works, but Quicktime is easy (this is the pro version, not the built in version)
I sometimes find that the .MOV file from the smarty doesn't upload into YouTube. Strange as it sounds, just saving it in QuickTime will clean it up

Please use VLC Player. Open source, simple, lightweight and opens any format file. www.videolan.org
You can trim files with two mouse clicks (start and finish, using the Record button) and change the default way of opening those files to VLC Player. NO more hassle.

Use Quicktime 7.. The built in version defaults to a conversion mode which is slow, unnecessary and sometimes fails. Quicktime 7 the PRO version. Maybe $30 or so.. Also you may need to get the MPEG plugin from Apple. I bought mine at least 12 years ago.. Copy the plug in from one machine to the next. Same with Quicktime 7 which I paid for many years ago

I just looked into this, thanks to this thread.
VLC has a RECORD button. Press it when you want to start, then again when you want to end. There will be a video file .mp4 created in your user video directory.
Something like :
vlc-record-2017-09-22-17h29m30s-GOPR0193.MP4
Great player, plays files that my other players say are corrupt.

For whatever reason I find that VLC on my Mac has crappy audio on the videos.
I use Wondershare Ultimate to view and edit the Smartycam files which works really well.
