Default Australia F1 Qualifying -spoiler alert

It was nice to see things tighter at the top of the time sheets for the first time in a few years. I would really like to see HAM and VET duke it out this year on the track instead of a Benz runaway season again.

The new cars look cooler but still sound like farts. I agree with the commentators that you can actually see that these cars are faster than last year. Crazy. I also agree that there will be more moments of these snap oversteers until the engineers (or FIA) figures out a way to minimize it. These guys can react to stuff at superhero speed but it seems the cars can just break away.

And how about GRO/Haas? That was nice to see.

And poor Daniel wiped out in front of the home crowd. I didn't like that.

Hopefully this season will be closer and more interesting than the past few years but I am skeptical.

I actually stayed up and watched it live. I was pretty tired and then a red flag did not help.

Th new timing graphics with the micro segments are awesome.

Cars look awesome and go crazy fast. The speed that they carry through corners is noticeable to the naked eye!! Still don't like the sound, but hey, Ferrari seems to have closed the gap to Mercedes significantly!! Finally hope for a season where we don't watch the Mercs just coast to victory each and every week. As a Ferrari fan, I think the power is real when you look at the Ferrari power Haas in Q3 and the two Ferrari powered Toro Rosso's in Q3!!

Ferrari have traditionally not done well on street circuits so qualifying just a quarter second behind Hamilton is great. When they get to a proper race course, I expect Ferrari to be even faster. The 3 element T wing that Mercedes is using compared to Ferrari's single element will be looked at by both Ferrari and Adrian Newey as a way to get even more down force on their own cars.

My excitement as a Ferrari fan has to be tempered until tonight to see how the Ferrari's do with:

1. Race pace
2. Pace with a full load of fuel
3. How they compare to Mercedes in terms of tire degradation. If the Mercs are easy on their tires as compared to the rest of the field, then they'll have yet another advantage.... Hoping for the best after this race!

Young Lance got quite a few mentions and a nice interview but unfortunately another crash (in practice) .....hopefully they get the car sorted at some point for him and he shows better. Massa's (welcome back!!) P7 shows there's hope....

Yes - the cars were visibly faster. Really amazing. It was clear that they were taking some turns absolutely flat out. Straight line speed is actually down because of all the Aero and big tires, but even so lap times are better. Corner speeds are just so much higher.

We are going to see a lot of snap's with the rear coming around until they sort things out. But I think the "T" wing is surely going to go away. It looks too fragile and too specific for straight line aero.

The load on the drivers is much higher. Grosjean said if he hadn't upped his weight training, he would have been destroyed during testing. They are hitting close to 6 G's on corners.

This will be an interesting season.
And nice to see Massa back.

Was it me or did it seem that the cars were turning in more quickly with those monster front tires?
Their hands were also, very much busier. Maybe thats the circuit. Be interesting to see on other tracks

The cars look great and are obviously super fast. Will the racing be good? Let's find out tonight!

Just watched 27 laps without a pass. Time to go to bed. Yawn!

Of course that's the inherent problem. Faster cars with more aero equates to less passing. Unless it rains..,

While it was a bit boring, I am impressed by Ferrari's ability to make the tires last and their ability to engineer that 'pit pass.'
If we can get more race results like this, we will see more competitive driving at the front of the pack.

Albert Park is notoriously difficult to pass at. Go back and watch the races from the recent past and you will see this. So it's not panic time ... yet. We're just going to have to wait a few more races to see how much of an effect the new specs will have on the races. But it's nice to see someone challenging the Mercs. Congrats to Vettel and to Ferrari for the win.

On an unrelated note, I have been working on learning Spanish and it is somewhat similar to Italian. I could actually understand Vettel as he spoke to the team in Italian at the end of the race. LOL

Exciting to see Ferrari back to winning. Can't wait to see MB and Ferrari fight this season. Ferrari race pace looks very strong.
