996/997 street and cup damper difference with GT wheel carriers
So I am in the process of adding 996GT2/3 street uprights on my 996tt and next on the list is dampers. The information available through search is thin and figured it would be helpful to house it all in one place for future reference. This is targeted for those with a 996 or 996TT and converting to the uprights that come with the GT2/GT3's. I figured this is the best spot for it but happy to have it moved.
Please note the easiest way to resolve this is to have a custom setup made but for most of us self supporting, shelling out 10-15k on new dampers is not always possible.
Here are my findings so far - feel free to PM me and tell me how wrong I am and I will update the post.
**Assuming your car already has the 996GT2/GT3 uprights on it
996/997 GT3 street fronts are interchangeable
996/997 GT3 CUP fronts are interchangeable
996/997 GT3 street rears are interchangeable but 997's do not have ARB (anti roll bar) mounts - these mounts are available from tarret (not sure the process of putting these on?)
996/997 GT3 CUP rears are 1.75" shorter than the street GT3 shock - a spacer will be needed to make this viable. This thread goes into more detail https://rennlist.com/forums/porsche-c...-for-sale.html and explains how the spacer actually may not cure 100% of the issue with geometry but seems to be a viable option. The other route would be to rebuild the shocks but customization is what we are trying to avoid here.
997RSR are even shorter than 997CUPfrom what I have gathered
Once again I welcome feedback corrections/omissions.
Thanks
