Default Indycar brake problems/overheating

Interesting article how the mismatched PFC pads/rotors with the Brembo calipers are overheating. For them to get leaking seals, they are seeing pretty high temps! Their experience with the PFC pads matches some of what I have seen.

I can see how clubracers on a tight budget would try mismatching a system but why would Indycar the pinnacle of American open wheel do that? It is hard enough to get designed systems to work right at the limits of racing. Going mismatched just seems like a recipe for failure and unexpected consequences.

I think that is probably obvious to anyone on the outside, but sounds like it wasn't to folks at Indycar.

Here is an article on Brembo's response http://www.racer.com/indycar/item/13...er-overheating

Such a shame... I hope Nina and the Team at PFC are able to work thru these technical issues.

I think it was the stepped, incremental introduction of the PFC replacement components, while continuing to use a portion of the old Brembo setup, that led to this. That and the cooling air restriction present at most top levels of the sport.

And then there are those who say they have no issues...

Timely post--I'm watching the race right now and they just showed a clip of someone going head-on into a tire wall after the brakes failed
