Default Fire suppression system

Racecar I'm looking at doesn't have one so need to get one.

Never had to shop for one in the past - what do people recommend? 500ish budget on it

I just went through this. I ended up ordering a 4L mechanical system from OG Racing. They are a PCA club race sponsor so there is some small discount. They were great answering all my questions. I installed it myself. Total cost including all the small things not included for the installation was about $500

I've installed a few of the 4L SPA mechanical systems. The one time I had to use it it worked good. The systems with the steel tanks are about $400, lighter aluminum tanks are available for more $$. I got mine from Pegasus (they can also refill and certify your tank if you ever have to use it).

What kind of car? If tank size is an issue they make a few models.

The key to all these systems is where to install and aim the spray nozzles. The system is virtually useless unless nozzles are aimed at the fire. A friend of mine suggested you're better off with a fire bottle, properly installed with a quick release. I have a complete system but I'm considering adding a bottle within easy reach.

After my small fire, and the corner workers running up with not one but two empty extinguishers, I'm adding a hand held extinguisher on top of the fire system.
