The Continental Series will be a 4 hour race this year instead of their normal 2.5 hour race featuring the new Cayman GS-MR cars along with the Aston GT4's, McClaren GT4, and last year's winning Mustangs who just received an additional 50lbs. of ballast.....

The race is next Friday at 12:15 EST live streaming from IMSATV.com....

Rennlister's participating include Leh Keen in the #22 Cayman in the ST class. In the GS class Jame Safronas (GMG) in the #11 Cayman GT4 and John Tece (BGB) in the #38 Cayman GT4 MR.....

It's always interesting to see the BOP adjustments and what they give different cars. I was with some Aston guys this winter and they have been hard at work....

Can't wait. GT3-R should be a force this year with a full year of development under it's belt.

MR is the new car that meets the FIA GT4 regs. GS is the grandfathered GT4's from 2016. A fair number of differences and legal scrutineering specifications, but close performance.

Porsche is pushing their new car the CS-MR. Interesting that PMNA is controlling the ECU's in the CS-GS cars....

Brandon Davis had the Continental Aston's worried with the second fastest lap of the event. I heard Buckler was really pissed off at him. Davis was just looking for a ride I guess (he was just testing for TRG)....

Yes, after fighting for a long time AGAINST recognized International sports car class regulations, such as SRO-spawned GT3 and GT4 (the latter closer to "showroom stock," the former, less so), IMSA has made a place for ACO LMP2 cars (they did before, but they were hobbled more), GT3 (GTD) and GT4 (the "new" GS class in Conti). It's refreshing, makes it easier for people worldwide to race a car in the same spec everywhere, and makes manufacturers feel better because they can make a standardized product that "fits" series, worldwide.

The Manthey Racing (MR) prepared (and SRO GT4 class homologated) Porsche 981 GT4 ClubSport brochure is here: https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=...44224172,d.eWE

From Car and Driver Blog: "Porsche Motorsport North America is handling the distribution for the kit, and the upgraded Clubsport will be eligible for competition in Pirelli World Challenge GTS and the IMSA Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge’s GS class. Elsewhere in the world, Clubsport MRs fit SRO homologation rules, allowing participation in races with a GT4 category."

The GT4 ClubSport as campaigned by BodyMotion and CJ Wilson was last years model, actually much closer to the street car than the MR version. Kudos to those guys for blazing the way. Rick Demann built a beautiful GS car out of a street car and tested it last year at the ROAR, but I think they were going to hobble his example too much to make it worthwhile.

It'll be cool to see what happens this year with the McLarens, Mustang GT4, MR and GS Porsche 981s.

The regulations state that only the locked PMNA flash can be used on those cars. It can be to boost performance closer to the MR cars, but not TOO much, or to change power delivery in such a way that it equalizes performance across the two platforms. Considering the production of the 981 GT4 ClubSport from Porsche Motorsports has been over, and the production and sale of these cars new (and conversion kits to update the original cars) is handled through Manthey, this all makes sense.
