Default Spec e30

Anyone race that here?

Interested in thinking on reliability of the cars - what gets chewed up / how frequently

A friend of mine does. They have pretty competitive fields down here. Another friend races and E30 in Chumpcar and Lemons. They have won several long endurance races so I think the reliability is pretty good for a basic E30.

Man, those things are getting old. Some parts are getting hard to find, but the racing is pretty good.

Talk to class founder Carter Hunt, National Champ x 2 Robert Grace, Sandro Espinoza (another champion) over on the NASA Mid-Atlantic forums. Al Taylor sells parts for them. The guys on the forum can give you his contact info (or I can via PM).

Me! Me!

They are pretty reliable. You have to keep up with the normal wear and tear items like control arms/ball joints, tie rod ends and wheel bearings. I do a timing belt every season.

The fact that you see so many in AER and Chump racing is an indication of how durable they are.

You could also talk to Andrew at DriveGear who rents out race cars. He maintains a fleet of 4 cars and has been doing this for years. He has seen and done it all.

Any more competitive series with running costs at or below 3-4K a weekend you know of in CA?

Andrew is terrific. DriveGear is in the Northeast. Jon Allen is a pretty good shoe himself! http://www.drive-gear.com/?page_id=20

Nope.

There's a good contingent in CA, too. I'm a Bimmer guy, not a Miata guy...

I think the E30 is a hoot to drive and that is part of the reason it has continued to do so well.
