One and done.
As for WEC, everybody wants in (https://www.autosport.com/news/repor...witch-for-2017) but at what level and what team? Only two LMP1 contenders for 2017 and MB doesn't factor anywhere in the series...

Wasn't Wehrlein bumped from Force India to Manor? Guys got chops and I think he's the better driver at Manor (Ocon & Haryanto) but I wouldn't peg him a top six seat driver, yet.
But maybe Mercedes wants someone playing second fiddle to Hamilton for the next few years... Could be. Personally I'd love to see Alonso back in a winning rig and putting stress on all podium positions and driving the **** out of everything on every race. I couldn't stand the guy at Ferrari but now he's a treasure to the sport.
A level-headed Bottas makes more sense as a direct replacement to Nico and the Mercedes connection is there, might help with contracts?
Nico has been vocal about family support and the compromises with being an F1 driver and family man. I'm surprised it's so sudden after the final race but not surprised it happened - figured he'd try one more to prove back-to-back then exit regardless of outcome. More power to him!

I think Mercedes is tired of the bickering of drivers -- makes sense to bring in a clear #2 that will take years to groom when Lewis is ready to retire. Alonso, Verstappen will only make Toto Wolff's hair much more gray. As a fan, however.... I'd love to see the fireworks between Alonso or VER and Hamilton. I still think Alonso would beat Hamilton in the same car. VER might take a 1/2 a season to "learn" how to score maximum points and be patient with race tactics.

I really can't believe this! I'm somewhat disappointed in him if there isn't a bigger issue behind this.
