What exactly do you mean by Freezing? That is typical a bad component or driver issue and you can identify those by looking at the dump files.

Let me know if you need help.

I'm in IT myself so I know my way around those things

No it's really all kinds of stuff going on. What makes us think it's power supply related is that fact that in the pit box we can have it running for 20 minutes without any issues, but as soon as the car is driving it cuts out after approx 5. This combined with the fact that it's always something different happening to the computer ... (we once had the computer half freeze. Connecting a monitor showed the windows desktop but stretched, and we could click on icons but nothing happened. Next time the wifi adapter that should auto connect to the mifi unit didn't connect, but the mifi network was shown in the list of available networks. Another time all worked well and after 3 minutes the internet connection speed dropped to 0.1mbit upstream, while doing a speedtest with another computer on that same mifi thing gave us 20mbit upstream etc etc. And of course everything is solved by rebooting the computer)

It's a Shuttle PC btw, specced to run headless in high temperatures for days without manual intervention. It's not temperature or vibration related either. That's something we already ruled out.

Next season I will test by connecting it to a separate battery and seeing what happens. I can do crazy stuff with that thing if it runs (you could already see the 2 camera setup + text overlay), but it's no use developing it further if the basic functionality doesn't even work.

I am even considering building a small Raspberry Pi setup that would allow me to powercycle the computer remotely.

A lot of this can be high voltage EMI.

We have tested it in several cars with completely different layouts. A BMW E46 race car and my 996 GT3 Cup Car for instance.

More testing will be done, with some measuring equipment in place

Vibrations could cause issues with the disk and then io paths I suggest to use a ssd. If you suspect power use a laptop as the battery isolated that better

I'm not crazy. Do you really think I would mount a normal hard drive inside a race car?

I did Ustream in-car last year from Sebring - iPhone 4S on a Mifi hotspot. Worked OK, but should have used a better phone/camera. Still a fun video to watch....lots of racecraft and good battles with some other pros.

Well I got the Race Keeper streaming working over the weekend in the garage... Still some issues to contend with. Not sure if they are setup or what, but need to iron stuff out before it goes prime time.

They're not quite done yet. Not a final release of this feature.
