Yes. It is an internal only baffle.
The same sump cover is used.

Not sure about the skid plate fitting, Perhaps ^ Bill is correct. I can say, as a deep sump oil pan, it does drop road clearance a wee bit.

ok
I wasn't sure, I thought the X51 pan with baffles was also a higher oil capacity, ie. Deeper.

Bill is correct the X51 is the same sump pan with a different internal baffle. So the factory skid will work without a problem.

Bill,

I enjoyed reading your threads about track preparing your car. Although I think the last update was some years back. Did you end up doing any upgrades to your cooling or oiling system for DE use?

Can the baffle portion be changed or is it smarter to just order a complete unit.

David, there is really no "unit". Stock sump cover is unrelated to the baffles that can be changed inside.

All,
There is probably more info on RL about M96 oiling than anything except maybe the old IMS issues. Search and yea shall find.

Nurb,
Car was converted years ago to a pure track (now race) car. However when is was a dual purpose beast no cooling mods were done other than water wetter. No oiling mods because I used low grip street tires then. If you pull more than .8g you are asking for trouble. So no Hoosiers and certainly no slicks! without oiling mods.

Now I understand it.

Suggestions on any particular brand?

First thing I did on my Boxster S was get an EBS baffle and a BreyKraus 1/2qt deep sump kit and install that. I run 20W/50 Amsoil racing oil.
I also did that 4" under-drive Pulley.

I'm only running Direzza's but I run it hard.

I've got about 5k of track time since I bought it with a 100K motor. Fingers crossed -- but no issues.

Thought this might be of interest--Aim Solo DL data logged this past weekend at VIR. A number of [not fast] laps with my stock 997.1 C2 on street tires. Those tires are Sumi HRZ IIIs: the LOUDEST tires I've ever experienced, but generating reasonable grip.

The upper set of traces is lateral G, right handers are positive and lefts are negative. The middle traces are oil pressure in psi. The bottom traces are steering angle (more on this later).

You can see the oil pressure drops from its normal (for elevated track rpm) 45 psi at certain corners, most notably at T1, T5 and T12 which are all slow-ish right handers. There's a little bit of pressure drop at a couple of left handers (T3 and T4), but it appears to much more prevalent on rights. What's really interesting, though, is that the pressure drop is much lower at the right hand T14 and T17, even though the lateral g's are similar to the other rights where the problem is prevalent. T14 is shorter in duration in comparison to the "problem turns." While T17 is a long corner, it's much faster and more open as seen in the lower relative steering angle... the g's generated there relate to speed, not tight radius.

What I don't know is whether this level of pressure drop is a problem, but I'm thinking I'll do the Mantis pan in the off season.

Is this data collected by AIM via the CAN buss using the stock sender unit?

Very interesting Data and it confirms my observations. I have the Mantis but still notice the dip in pressure on right handers.

Yes, via the stock sensor and the CAN bus. Hopefully by spring time I can get the aftermarket pan installed and do an "after" comparison.

Have you verified that there is no correlation with RPM? Just making sure it wasn't a shifting point or something. But it appears to be very interesting data.

Doesn't correlate with rpm, not shifting at those points. Take a look at the straight between T12 and T13, where there are 3-4 and 4-5 upshifts, and a 5-3 downshift... no sign of the pressure dropping during shifts.
