Question Help Deciphering Coil Spring Markings

Hi there.

I have KW shocks that came with my car when I bought it. From looking at KW shocks for caymans, and from posting here for feedback, it appears they are V3s

The springs are marked.

70-140* 05G12
and
120-170 07G?? (looks like "12" again but my photo is blurry).

Anyone know what these mean? I'm guessing that one of the two first numbers is N/mm which would put these springs at either 800#/in and 970#/in if the last numbers are the rating, or 400#/in and 685#/in if the first numbers are the rating.

here's a picture from the front spring:

Normally springs have 3 basic measurements; inside diameter, weight and free height. If they are progressive weight springs, they are marked with two different weights depending on compressed height. I would call kw to get a definite answer

That is a 70N/mm rate and 140mm length spring in the photo.

Cool, thanks. I think that means I have springs that were spec'd or ordered different from the default. From what I've been able to find the V3 default spring rates for the Cayman are F:230# and R:400#. The crosssports (or whatever they are called) are F:448# and R:616#

So at F:400# and R:685# I wonder if I'm overwhelming the dampers. I'll give KW a ring

KW support is very helpful, and easy to reach. So to wrap this up Winders is spot on.

70-140* 05G12

70 = spring rate n/mm
140 = height in mm
05 = month of production
G = Germany
12 = year of production.
