Default Cayman R vs Cayman S vs GT4 at NYST

Had a fantastic time hitting New York Safety Track during the OctoberFAST event two weekends ago. One of the most memorable bits was getting some open space and having some traffic free hot laps with Peter ("12pcar" on Planet 9) and a buddy of mine from Virginia. Below are a list up upgrades and some clips of our fastest clean laps.

I have a Cayman R with Fabspeed Race Headers, Valvetronic Exhaust, and Protune, factory suspension, slotted rotors with Ferodo DS1.11 Pads and SS lines, 235/265 Michelin Super Sports.

Peter has a 987.2 Cayman S, full bolt ons (Fabspeed Race Headers, Remus Catback, IPD Plenum/TB, Fabspeed Protune, etc) with some unknown but moderately upgraded suspension/brakes and running Nitto NT01s.

My friend from Virginia has a stock GT4 on Michelin SC2s, PCCB.

Peter is the most experienced driver and he had some great late-apexing lines that gave him more exit speed, and his race compound tires outperformed my Super Sports to the point where I felt like I might as well have been on all seasons. To give my buddy with the GT4 credit, in the time attack at the end of the day he dropped 1.4 seconds and ran a 1:38.64 beating my fastest time. He said this was mostly due to reviewing his Porsche Data Acquisition App. we reviewed the details of the app over dinner, and the insight was unbelievable. Never seen anything more sophisticated on a phone, and provided data for improvement near rivaling that of a decent instructor. I feel I was consistently faster throughout the day, but had I driven the GT4 instead I have no doubt my times would have dropped a good 2 seconds. Speaking of...there was a white GT4 there that day that is said to have been running in the mid 1:35s with just Race Headers, piloted by a fellow who raced Gallardos in the Supercar GT series in Europe for 7 years, amongst other things.

Conclusion: I need to finish intake side of the engine, more camber up front, performance alignment, and sticky tires to run Peter's pace in the CS. The GT4 is an absolute animal, and there is no doubt in the right hands it is the better/faster car. Seat time, seat time, seat time.
