I like listening to Brian Till over Diffey. Adds some good insight and doesn't sound hopped up on caffeine and loud. Hope they keep him. Miss Will in the pits. Not easy losing a parent.

I suspect this race will be a bit of a snooze fest as passing on this track is difficult and it is the longest race on the calendar. The race pretty much runs the entire full two hours even without a safety car (wait a second there always has been at least one safety car in this race). So I'd say it's Rosberg's race to win if he gets a clean start. But what to watch for is that the two Red Bulls (starting 2nd and 4th) are on different tire strategies than the two Mercs (starting 1st and 3rd). The two Mercs elected to go out in Q2 using the ultra soft tires while the Red Bulls qualified on the super softs. So watch for possible first turn antics at the start (always a dicey start at this track). Then if no front runners are collected on the first lap, watch to see how much farther the Red Bulls can run in their first stint compared to the Mercs, and of course watch for the inevitable safety car(s).

Ricciardo gets a great start. Nico tries one of his blocking maneuvers to squeeze out Daniel, but does not succeed. It slows him down enough to let Max by as well. Hamster falls in line next with Kimi right on his heels.

The Red Bulls lead 1 - 2 until the Mercs have to pit when their ultra softs go off. The Mercs switch to softs to make it a one stop race. Ricciardo pits first and has problems with his left rear tire costing him 8 seconds. He comes out behind Lewis. Max pits and has a great stop and retains the lead ahead of Nico.

Meanwhile, Seb is making a charge to the front and is up to 11th. Perez hits the wall two laps later and brings out a safety car. The leaders stay out but Seb pits for fresh super softs.

Max has to stop for fresh tires and comes back out ahead of Ricciardo, but behind Nico. Hamster is back in fourth struggling with his tires. He wants to pit but his team tells him to stay out. Kimi sees his troubles and makes the pass.

Nothing much happens for the rest of the race. The finish order is

Watching the race from Hong Kong this weekend. Two hour pre-qualifying show hosted by Alex Yoong and Alpesh Patel (former Ferrari senior aerodynamicist) along with four others, followed by 30-minute post-qualifying analysis. What a difference a few time zones make....

Bad luck for the cool Nico. He had such a blazing start. It was too good.

Great job for Seb to get up to fifth from dead last on a track where you can't pass.

They need to shorten that race. It's too long.

interesting race from a strategic stand point -- liked the different scenarios going on with each team and within teams themselves.

gotta say that Ricciardo has stepped up his game over the past several races with VER falling off in that same period

Wish that Hamilton would stop whining so much. It's rare that he just doesn't have the pace during a weekend and he certainly didn't have it in qualifying or the race this weekend compared to Rosberg. It happens to everyone from time to time and it's rare that he doesn't have the outright pace, so stop the whining, questioning the team strategy and get on with it.

Well, finally an interesting race, even if the top 3 finished where they started. Great drives by both Ferrari's drivers. Vettle was impressive, bringing his car from DAL to 5th on that track is truly stellar, but I still give the drive of the day to Rosberg. He managed his car well despite the brake issues and old tires.
Really nice to see a Merc passed on track. What does that make, twice in 3 years? 2017, with a chance for a change at the top, can't come fast enough. These last 3 years have been tough for anyone who is not a Merc or Hamilton fan.
